It is what welcomes anyone who approaches our home and waves happily in honor of all who currently serve or have served our Country!




004Yellowed, tattered and faded red, white & blue – but still this flag has stood proudly on our porch since 9/11. Why we never flew a flag before then is a wonder to me?  I cannot imagine not displaying a flag at our home & have to say that I am truly surprised that not more American Families display the American Flag!

As members of our local VFW (veterans of foreign wars) and as a Vietnam war veteran, my husband and I thank you for your patriotism. It means a lot to a veteran to know that his/her service was appreciated.

You'd have to go back a few months to see our flag flying -- my huband built a flagpole for me one year and the flag flies every day. :)

We did until a late fall wind storm took the flag, pole and all. We never did find it... now is a good time to remember to replace it!

Great post.. I know that I'm not as grateful as I should be that I live in America. Displaying a flag is such an easy show of respect to our country and our veterans--I'm going to make it my goal to purchase a flag and place it on our property. Thanks for the inspiration and thanks also for visiting my blog.-I'm glad I discovered yours! I look forward to joining in on your wonderful Thursday party :)

Goodness, do we have a beautiful flag or what? I admit my bias, but I think it is really the most beautiful of all the other nation's flags (with the UK's Union Jack coming in a very close second!).

Thank you for flying it! It is an honor to our vets and those brave men and women currently serving our country.

I don't think as many Canadians fly our flag as Americans do theirs. We've not had one but I do wear flag lapel pins.

We used to proudly display a flag at our home in Columbia, MD on holidays. Now we are off by ourselves in the woods so there's no one to see it so haven't felt inspired to do so. Good for you that you do.

Yes, we proudly fly America's flag 24/7. I still remember getting goose bumps saying the pledge of allegiance in grade school. You can see it here:

Tracie- I am proud to display the flag too...it is the one real thing that we can all do to show how much we love our country!

I am very proud to fly my American flag. I have used the same flag since 1976. . .The 200th birthday of our country. I love seeing the flag flying from homes. Karie

We proudly fly our flag as do most of our neighbors. It makes my heart sing to pass by and see the flag fluttering in the breeze. Many of our neighbors also fly the Texas flag too. ;-)

I've had a very interesting time reading your blog.

I have huge respect for Americans, their love of their flag and their patriotism. I'm English and we don't do much in the way of flying our Union Flag except on St. George's Day, but we show our patriotism in other ways - silent homage when our dead troops come home, that sort of thing.

Our flag isn't a Union Jack - The term 'jack' refers to the flag that is flown from the bowsprit of a ship, often denoting nationality."
It is called the Union Flag because it symbolises the administrative union of the countries of the United Kingdom. It is made up up of the individual Flags of three of the Kingdom's countries all united under one Sovereign - the countries of England, Scotland and of Northern Ireland. As Wales was not a Kingdom but a Principality it could not be included on the flag.
Ooops, wandered off track onto a history lesson there - sorry, but I hope you found it interesting!!!

Love your flag! I have tried several times and have three scars on my siding where the pole pulled off. I am asking hubs to put up a wooden pole to fly one on.

So proud of our country's flag - ours hasn't been up since its support fell along with the arbor - I actually saw it fold like a house of cards! We need to put it back up! Thank you for sharing this inspiring post with A Return to Loveliness and for showing us your gorgeous garden.
