Fishtail Cottage Garden 4/27/15

This week, I have so many blooms to share, but I can see that the garden is already getting ready for the next phase of blooms, peonies, roses, foxglove, ornamental onion and lupine.  Throughout the years, I’ve planted plants so that there will always be something in bloom.  I love seeing blooms to look forward to as old blooms are disappearing. 

 

Last week I shared that the lilacs were starting to bloom, and this week their aroma is filling my home.

I love the pathways I’ve created and seeing original visions come to fruition is always fun. My side gate is beautiful this time of year. Still blooming are camellia (which are going into their third month of blooms).  Bleeding hearts, columbine, roses and iris’s re about to appear!

In my more woodland area of the garden – the parts where it’s more shaded and wet, I have lily of the valley in bloom. Such a lovely fragrant flower!

Hostas are almost full enough to open up. I started layering this lower part of the rose terrace in my landscape a few years ago.  Right now, you can see the hostas, english blue bells and heuchra.  The grassy foilage above this row is sibeiran iris and layers of other plants I will share with you in the future as they bloom. It’s fabulous to see an idea I had years ago, finally reaching its potential.  

The back of the house is something I’ve been working on quite a bit this spring.  The cement urns have a new plant to me, “White Pink Blush” Peruvian Lily.  From what I’ve read, this plant can be invasive in the garden, it’s beautiful ~ but curious what you’ve experienced.  I think this plant is a perfect addition to these urns as it says it will bloom the entire spring/summer. I’m sure I’ll be sharing more photo’s when this plants opens up and shows more of it’s prolific blooms.

I know I shared those beautiful yellow Northern Highlight Azaleas last week, but they are still opening up and causing such a gorgeous aroma and view from the patio ~ so I am sharing again!  If you are looking for something special to add to your landscape, I highly recommend this plant.
