Well, they have branched into garden products now. When they reached out to do a collaboration, I was so excited and began planning my vision to use it to use it as a place to plant the seeds I brought from Washington State to California. It arrived super-fast and very well packaged. I will say this was super easy to put together. It came a with step-by-step manual which simplified the process and literally took minutes to put together. Not only is this planter so pretty to look at it, but it’s multi-functional. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilFYZnNpquJa6-ylLIREq_CmJB9Xpat_6STAEsl5O_jZI1NaV-eLTdelpacLBHJPtHbFeR9-E9aS6T-yDDJt2YpsHEotr6zOcdb7QaoXz0yjTy7rtGMoS7ztCyWwpyyhACG5x3MrgVlSrfbmvk2k3-Kx30aT4flKKcf58ob7UQ-ucYl1EoriYcZUKz/s4032/07972F29-8DF4-4495-A6F4-6E84FC40E4B9.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilFYZnNpquJa6-ylLIREq_CmJB9Xpat_6STAEsl5O_jZI1NaV-eLTdelpacLBHJPtHbFeR9-E9aS6T-yDDJt2YpsHEotr6zOcdb7QaoXz0yjTy7rtGMoS7ztCyWwpyyhACG5x3MrgVlSrfbmvk2k3-Kx30aT4flKKcf58ob7UQ-ucYl1EoriYcZUKz/s320/07972F29-8DF4-4495-A6F4-6E84FC40E4B9.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><p>After putting it together and giving myself a few days to look at it, I thought of the brilliant idea to use it as an ice bucket when entertaining. & as you can see it's absolutely perfect! So if you are not a gardener, you definitely need this too! So before planting my seeds and making it a garden planter, we decided to try it out to use poolside here in California. We love the fact that the three buckets are removable and easy to carry no matter what you have that in them. The ice stayed cold for hours, making it a perfect solution for an afternoon cooler. I decided not to drill holes in the bottom for now because I think it could be used indoor and outdoor if I decided to do so. But I’m sure you could do that very easily.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJJrQT68e4YchOSs188ahpCXubbTtEoipcL3BYH0Hwk3tTQ8_R09xek7lNc8z_YB2uF4_nPwmTdYKUNnWyPdUbVubSntBFNarkQQAygUjszOtH2DdGfMrV8EslphaLSoGHs3X7kI4EkshDQuAvFd52nlD_8lk3X8RisZ0V4GKeg43g9xwwsescJTGq/s4032/99F2A116-FF28-46BA-BE20-3B85DC8B4B09.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; Then I placed my seeds where I wanted them, next, I placed a thin layer of more soil on top. I also had started seeds a few weeks before this and I ended up moving those seeds to the planter boxl. I've enjoyed taking this place over and making it our own. However, doing so has had its own set of challenges. No, we did not sell Fishtail Cottage in Bothell, Washington we will plan to maintain both homes with lots of help. However, I will continue to soley manage the gardens at Fishtail Cottage. I find it very scary to trust all my blood sweat tears and work to anyone. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmv9Ag0u1Od2jeY-NTufv7o7zT5tfW4JdM6dXs6vK0wYtsWxT32nHpJ-AIFXuzIKI2YBGehBDYz9JTArUSlq5TCXqUAzXAXIXYy9ZxbiysCG_h7__LY5mDvnAs8HX48t26xsjEAx1-BkBpbs_OjHmXHEtpOqhNeRWTx0ta6biUpt0r805XLIbTaMiP/s2878/31650B78-8C7A-451A-BA57-89C4DD158273.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2348" data-original-width="2878" height="522" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmv9Ag0u1Od2jeY-NTufv7o7zT5tfW4JdM6dXs6vK0wYtsWxT32nHpJ-AIFXuzIKI2YBGehBDYz9JTArUSlq5TCXqUAzXAXIXYy9ZxbiysCG_h7__LY5mDvnAs8HX48t26xsjEAx1-BkBpbs_OjHmXHEtpOqhNeRWTx0ta6biUpt0r805XLIbTaMiP/w640-h522/31650B78-8C7A-451A-BA57-89C4DD158273.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEin5z2ntVr0AcDTMBGxR1v6TNvNDuNfTgUMD3_uRtDueRnZOX_F9lXlNcoDMfNCup5Eq8jj5WYsd_ux6lq2a5iyveF_VSu6nE1IkBhKhVAJQ3m-ElQw7e7T2MpRWZwZqJTX7rTJoTBaxMe-kXU32Mw45PBNk5f5Ozo5FAZNp2fc1A6xHAmOTHPvX2bB/s1290/E1BC3FE1-3035-449B-AB5B-09E40E602BAD.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1206" data-original-width="1290" height="598" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEin5z2ntVr0AcDTMBGxR1v6TNvNDuNfTgUMD3_uRtDueRnZOX_F9lXlNcoDMfNCup5Eq8jj5WYsd_ux6lq2a5iyveF_VSu6nE1IkBhKhVAJQ3m-ElQw7e7T2MpRWZwZqJTX7rTJoTBaxMe-kXU32Mw45PBNk5f5Ozo5FAZNp2fc1A6xHAmOTHPvX2bB/w640-h598/E1BC3FE1-3035-449B-AB5B-09E40E602BAD.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /></div><p>I really hoped I could transform my go to household style into a mid-century modern design with a minimalist touch. I tried in the beginning, but it just didn't come naturally to me. I ended up doing what I know and endorsing the "Cottage Style" with a modern twist. It's been difficult to find the Cottage Style available locally in the desert, so I've brought much of it from home and ordered many items online. I absolutely love how this place is turning out and I know over time it will become more and more mine!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdWdnlVoRYZg2wAUKA2NgktC4qXwGzOhjNpdDdBWLcQaQbYhgeBsfs81DpWztu6WbrhG5hG3voUwtQVIBt3HvMs4POxG6-DI5-gjEffnhvNV5F-JdWjHz2NHcZ4AWzN6ibhhCiegjRmdlHD-g9jycNGlL51RL26cpzZKNzAKvJsYLalkbJZE19js5N/s1601/4E251798-D3B8-4A0A-BD79-55D79B46EAC8.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1601" data-original-width="1290" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdWdnlVoRYZg2wAUKA2NgktC4qXwGzOhjNpdDdBWLcQaQbYhgeBsfs81DpWztu6WbrhG5hG3voUwtQVIBt3HvMs4POxG6-DI5-gjEffnhvNV5F-JdWjHz2NHcZ4AWzN6ibhhCiegjRmdlHD-g9jycNGlL51RL26cpzZKNzAKvJsYLalkbJZE19js5N/w517-h640/4E251798-D3B8-4A0A-BD79-55D79B46EAC8.jpeg" width="517" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3y2GKhaLUin4TMx_OhX8tFDVfNZUp7c_PNuEIgnAgrBBkE-vxWCnkZiDVG8OIGR5n3RrgZTiUgs3KJ2_Vvn8hYd4jtFwTSJmkcPjviFgsiYExbZTAZaSRKXtFqzF674nRGhOOwtPIcxjxML_dHgoImKvsX4-V68rwrnJcCq5WeP-Ljf1EJAuc9jsE/s1599/8AE01EAD-50F1-493C-83E2-61B1F468D6CF.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1599" data-original-width="1290" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3y2GKhaLUin4TMx_OhX8tFDVfNZUp7c_PNuEIgnAgrBBkE-vxWCnkZiDVG8OIGR5n3RrgZTiUgs3KJ2_Vvn8hYd4jtFwTSJmkcPjviFgsiYExbZTAZaSRKXtFqzF674nRGhOOwtPIcxjxML_dHgoImKvsX4-V68rwrnJcCq5WeP-Ljf1EJAuc9jsE/w517-h640/8AE01EAD-50F1-493C-83E2-61B1F468D6CF.jpeg" width="517" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLX2QW3KXsPf4bTxeqzEJPj_PrIlHVwypZHD8ps-PkRomDn1sC7_dByfNVxDpbl4s7rBClyHrG2goucmZ2rZUWcpJUmnJg_O2IQJIKvOuBDIeIKJ6IjA9eFYXb8VWmhpIUj96dakEwWWHjpl9kt11e4kOLD2eWbAiUhPYZzwEh5H7vc0PAG9Av1nyg/s1607/93EC34F5-5FC2-41B2-BD54-62D5B897953C.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1607" data-original-width="1290" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLX2QW3KXsPf4bTxeqzEJPj_PrIlHVwypZHD8ps-PkRomDn1sC7_dByfNVxDpbl4s7rBClyHrG2goucmZ2rZUWcpJUmnJg_O2IQJIKvOuBDIeIKJ6IjA9eFYXb8VWmhpIUj96dakEwWWHjpl9kt11e4kOLD2eWbAiUhPYZzwEh5H7vc0PAG9Av1nyg/w514-h640/93EC34F5-5FC2-41B2-BD54-62D5B897953C.jpeg" width="514" /></a></div><p>The house came mostly furnished, but after only a few days I began parting ways with the previous homeowners' pieces and immediately started introducing things that were more my comfort style. It didn't take long for the crazy number of boxes to start arriving on the porch from Anthropologie, Target, Amazon, Magnolia and Zara Home and many other boutiques and personal flea market vendors. Opening the boxes felt like the best Christmas ever... Every box had no rhyme or reason to the arrival - and it was dreamy to find places for each and every item. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY8vlf1N3zKYl1_txh9Y3IvDYrqo1jBfnE3X5oh_ZVQ8_Ki5e896Ep-cSbuMJX0y2rP5n6MRtpGm10NioopzmgJ6h9JMcxqepuskq-pFGOHG716J-Run-p9_QbUpnnzUxuSWHdeaenSKOC1g1tDS-QuswXIVI0TEw0cQhfY7trmPk7A-pCkb2aDwNX/s1290/2B29FCE4-FC6D-471B-A9BE-2001C5299572.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; All of the kitchen needs is outrageous - but the best part, is it’s all new! So, every time I take it out of the cabinet or drawer, it's very exciting. I've even been cooking much more than before because it's just myself and my husband and he's not as picky as the kids have been over the years. Seriously, I gave up trying to happily feed everyone. Our home dinners turned into a fend for yourself over the years except for Sunday dinners...which even that became a potluck scenario so everyone could eat what they loved. I'm a total geek when it comes to being organized, so of course, every nook and cranny has its own customized organization strategically planned out. The Container Store became one of my most favorite places to order my needs from. I can't begin to tell you how id lay awake at night brainstorming which space needed my attention next. I truly enjoy the whole process of making my home here in La Quinta comfortable for not only me, but for anyone that visits. & yes, I'm constantly tweaking what goes where according to the vibe I get while living here. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0CmkAphcj4fkGyfuIGm7xyhXt9QKVzqxc_H4YECTC9EnWVd3oAsDYVrrPPzwup3qsfYcYBTDSaxbgbq5ij9-xyWsNTHqrjuUxFySCyg7JJjSYRSfTs0lugHIEJnWCpZSD9Nr7OzqH1lNJEgK2ViuV-XY5O2YQowKrkg5zuUkKIsEaokzb5nt7AIEn/s1298/C30064B4-9FEA-40FB-9EAD-AC52A0AFBBDF.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1298" data-original-width="1290" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0CmkAphcj4fkGyfuIGm7xyhXt9QKVzqxc_H4YECTC9EnWVd3oAsDYVrrPPzwup3qsfYcYBTDSaxbgbq5ij9-xyWsNTHqrjuUxFySCyg7JJjSYRSfTs0lugHIEJnWCpZSD9Nr7OzqH1lNJEgK2ViuV-XY5O2YQowKrkg5zuUkKIsEaokzb5nt7AIEn/w636-h640/C30064B4-9FEA-40FB-9EAD-AC52A0AFBBDF.jpeg" width="636" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjABaqjQ-NnhwKH-aZ_runIGOaAR_uJhUrUj5loRT3PHf5kXCyufIaSqx4e4OKgdLsV8KnhL6P-qVf_qL3OZxZ0ECe6f_mSJLLSCOn3cyiZJ0QyEMoNMguqnHJJ7UWAzJmWIImMntDzLuD-PSWN8aUAR4wQ-g7ubUcoAWHgLO_SjLpTdJmmrnbiPu1G/s1347/106126CF-362D-4402-B517-5FF4CA165BFF.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1347" data-original-width="954" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjABaqjQ-NnhwKH-aZ_runIGOaAR_uJhUrUj5loRT3PHf5kXCyufIaSqx4e4OKgdLsV8KnhL6P-qVf_qL3OZxZ0ECe6f_mSJLLSCOn3cyiZJ0QyEMoNMguqnHJJ7UWAzJmWIImMntDzLuD-PSWN8aUAR4wQ-g7ubUcoAWHgLO_SjLpTdJmmrnbiPu1G/w454-h640/106126CF-362D-4402-B517-5FF4CA165BFF.jpeg" width="454" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><p>While tackling the inside of the home and making it cozy, my mind was racing with dreams of what to do outside in the garden. Because where we live at Fishtail Cottage in Bothell, Washington is garden Zone 8b, I had some learning to do. La Quinta California's garden Zone is 9b, so I knew going into the purchase of this home, I could plant different things that don't grow for me at home. After many nights and days of research, both online and visiting local nurseries and asking so many questions....I again decided to stick with what i know and plant a cottage garden here in the desert. The only downside I foresee with a cottage garden is that i am slightly using more water than others around me that are maintaining a desert landscape. </p><p>So, what have I introduced into my garden here in the desert? Well, you'll have to look for my next post. </p><p>I'm finally feeling we are settled and enjoy living in our new place! We are enjoying friends and family coming to visit and learn so much about this house with every visit. We are still learning the area and meeting new friends to hang out with. My husband loves to golf when he isn't working and I'm finding new hobbies for myself. We facetime quite a bit with the grandkids and are trying to visit Washington as much as possible to see our friends and family there, along with checking on the house the house and gardens. We will spend the summers in Washington and our winters here in the desert. on the Floss is a new rose introduced by David Austin in 2020. It shares
clusters of fruity flowers and is said to be a repeat bloomer. This large shrub
is said to grow 4 feet tall and wide. I planted it on the flagstone path behind
English Boxwoods between Connie’s Sandstorm and Bubble Bath rose shrubs. This
rose seems to be happy in morning shade and afternoon hot sun. I am looking
forward to seeing it established for me in the future and plan to add an
obelisk for it to grow on… for me it has grown much taller than anticipated. I
expect to see more blooms next year and use as a cut flower in garden bouquets.

Old Hall is a gorgeous David Austin rose introduced in 2011. I have this beauty
planted on the East side of my backyard garden bed. This rose is the epitome of
an English Rose. The blooms are amazingly fragrant with an old rose scent. It
blooms later in the season for me than other roses. This rose is considered a
climbing rose, but I am keeping it as a shrub approximately 5 feet tall and 3
feet wide in my landscape. It is in semi shade under a Honey Locust Tree. </span><span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt;"> </span><span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt;">This particular part of my garden is planted
very densely and the roots of everything planted in this space is competing with
the arborvitaes I amend and fertilize these flowers more often than other
sections of landscape. </span><span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt;"> </span><span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt;">This rose is
stunning through all the stages of its bloom cycle which makes it an excellent

This spring, early summer here in the Seattle area has been filled with so much rain. everything is a bit watered down which has weighed most of the foliage and heavy blooms of my peonies down. So, cutting and bringing them inside to enjoy is most important this year. </span></p><span id="docs-internal-guid-03dc7bb3-7fff-94ae-eb0d-9647e5b554be"><p dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: #222222; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><span style="border: none; display: inline-block; height: 639px; overflow: hidden; width: 426px;"><img height="639" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/3doXWdK3vRLqQLbQU6aK54yDbVGqWjoZImJdtgW41msMfT-eqjCf_fc-YqsSqChVsGOd56GiLB2fbhwyhsiUL7E6PKdTtrv_rRuvvvAiz-MwBLyfFSAHIMz0baqISSnJrYrbhI5g7iVZ92-CAw" style="margin-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px;" width="426" /></span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: #222222; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The most common variety of peonies we all see in most gardens is the herbaceous peonies that are all pictured below. This type of peony becomes a larger rounded shaped shrub. This variety of peony generally takes two to three years before seeing any blooms, which means you want to make sure you chose a spot in your landscape carefully when planting. If you have to disturb the roots more time anxiously awaiting blooms isn't ideal. When planting you want to be sure root is just below the surface. The root system requires it to be exposed to very cold temperatures. If the roots are planted too deep the plant will produce foliage however, you may see little to no blooms. I remind myself that those cold days of low temperatures is worth living through so we can see peonies in the late spring. As you can see in the above photo that we had a horribly cold winter and spring, but the abundance of peony blooms shows that the roots are happy. There are so many gorgeous colors of herbaceous of peonies, i seem to have gravitated towards planting the lighter pink colors in my landscape. Peonies such as Shirley Temple, Sorbet, Felix Crousse, Bowl of Beauty and Sarah Bernhardt. The anticipation of waiting for these blooms to appear is like Christmas for me. Over the years I have added more darker colors and many whites as well. Herbaceous peonies provide great filler foliage int the garden landscape and gorgeous fall color. In late fall, once brown is when I cut foliage right down to the base of the plant.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: center;"> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><p dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: #222222; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"></span><span style="background-color: transparent; color: #222222; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"></span><span style="background-color: transparent; color: #222222; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><span style="border: none; display: inline-block; height: 133px; overflow: hidden; width: 200px;"><img height="133" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/39BMAaheCmwl-vBXstQ8p58jB_KDEX9rwcGC_2tp7ZSDVWPCuThKNiXMYHMChpGUar2xqX45Uj27Rb1f6amqriugRBpvUulCjiYSwbglszwCoI64WJiHRluHkOFu9dRIjGyTf34lPZi-OYXfcw" style="margin-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px;" width="200" /></span></span><span style="background-color: transparent; color: #222222; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><span style="border: none; display: inline-block; height: 133px; overflow: hidden; width: 200px;"><img height="133" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/SAedCAO3jF8F29Xx4bgKDpas9CT7xso8JASFry_M2Wq6eh-U1qQRjQFtGnTvM-QsPevOmaqMHO3x_QmUCi40QRzQZjZ6Ph1SSjSAQJnRcJIhj5FCCnz4QxZBP-BpxROOxbUDT_8ZTwJS1gMt9g" style="margin-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px;" width="200" /></span></span><span style="background-color: transparent; color: #222222; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><span style="border: none; display: inline-block; height: 133px; overflow: hidden; width: 200px;"><img height="133" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/XuUro3Sro8TL5u6wZ8DaPoq2dQAnSMVxw5n7VcilTGyXr6gRgGyTEzV-4MgjhSDEL46BhulXMyu7vgonFgHRsERGyBnPOvYnpAt47eqNMUjNwswUcrE8qiNf7NYMykHP9fAOdczzy7e7D9obOA" style="margin-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px;" width="200" /></span></span><span style="background-color: transparent; color: #222222; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><span style="border: none; display: inline-block; height: 133px; overflow: hidden; width: 200px;"><img height="133" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/mLgbXKt9cLlQXg4b6CXGR6YWQmCjXEL-PVSK6galQEFTBLMfFZvid-eboXV_RJbFEcS4CyfDO-xFDhnhwaWrlfJtfGz_bRKP2zucrp7fZlqJqGfwKAbwmEyqCNAH06MiZ0yx0vbkXHbYJ-UarQ" style="margin-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px;" width="200" /></span></span><span style="border: none; display: inline-block; height: 133px; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; overflow: hidden; width: 200px;"><img height="133" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/IjFPpYxPg19m94JKn7CovPcVbREMNi5d3X92xC6n0awbJEJ5Y6-LT7cVbONt34dkh8hrppy4EPbtu4o1GP7cfwZVkobWWwxrJho7RbVrBy5TT42c6YrSacKlEIrwKIawPa9RQeEX4-E1-oBQGA" style="margin-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px;" width="200" /></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: center;"> </p><p dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: #222222; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: #222222; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Tree peonies are another variety of peony. Tree peonies have more of a woody upright cane that produces absolutely huge dinnerplate blooms much earlier than the other peonies in the garden. The blooms on tree peonies may last a few weeks if you are lucky. Because the blooms come from old wood, I generally do not cut this variety for a cut flower...I have found enjoying them outside is just as nice. The foliage does die back in the fall on this variety but do leave the canes through winter. This past week I did give my tree peony a good hard prune due to how tall it was getting. The amount of rain fall we have had here in my area gave the shrub a very untidy look and I was worried that it may break the branches and create an undesirable shape for next year's plant. </span></p><p dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: #222222; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><span style="border: none; display: inline-block; height: 400px; overflow: hidden; width: 266px;"><img height="400" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/M05SkS1YQLLHvhp0dDVroPQ8EZ3_bQTN3u4NMQhE2dT7do7oTFAiYsMu6wTtrpUIyRgOft8WJJnhLh2qauWB1Qsz0i2qdAU66vLOqyycH0ycaQZ8ZnuQ7Jwv59e1YSkoLMK3KbtlRXoraWihVw" style="margin-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px;" width="266" /></span></span><span style="background-color: transparent; color: #222222; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><span style="border: none; display: inline-block; height: 416px; overflow: hidden; width: 624px;"><img height="416" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/bHMO4qRSlvUviTVX4N9VQS9jpfLpVvv3XoRcL7dTRQf0FhFhR_E4QboX5Z61kZysjJVX4kE02N1quXcFyGIbxsQErclSLyN6nTDqYJXFYQgHGny8878VjJnmb2bOBJjA4RqCGvZVvbwZTBiqYg" style="margin-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px;" width="624" /></span></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: #222222; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">In the past several years I've added a more diverse range of Itoh Peonies. These are also known as intersectional peonies. They are a cross between the herbaceous and tree peony. The canes look more like the tree version of the peony, but the foliage is more like the herbaceous. And these do require to be cut down to the ground in late fall. They are a more recently developed shrub and highly sought after due to their durability. Like tree peonies, the price of some of these plants are on the higher spectrum and can range from twenty five dollars to hundreds. I have learned to not plant them in the background of a garden bed as they seem to get lost in the other plants and shrubs. I like to see them right up front and center to enjoy their amazing blooms. You are probably wondering who my source is and what I am adding. Whenever I add more to my garden, I remind myself what I do this year is for next year. So I'm careful and do a lot of research before planting more...as I've realized the real estate in my landscape is becoming less and less. Because my garden is so densely planted I wait for many of my spring perennials to die back before adding more. I'll buy early and pot up in a planter and add in later summer early fall. Which seems to be enough time to allow the roots to get established for next years garden. Also these new plantings won't get lost under all the foliage. </span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="border: none; display: inline-block; height: 400px; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; overflow: hidden; width: 400px;"><img height="400" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/FOCjDD4gAlSwHYTgoA2n17jGPVjkoSWCt562cjiqqFUI38MHUXiD9k7zS_dXV-bo6Rs-_7Vo3FbLw-Q6mpur2Lwdt8U1_y4JrJOIKOsAOaxFBdm87K7-sldY_tSbqh-jyNmhbiGmZcVOxyVOeg" style="margin-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px;" width="400" /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="border: none; display: inline-block; height: 400px; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; overflow: hidden; width: 400px;"><img height="400" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/yboilbYxplFDEQnFK4kIvwEUw8CVEyCUJDxzI3CXPVxoTRdikVJsdagtb8vq9vNbfVLAPrKNTN963KJrtlHNh71KgXTgP5V1O74z51vX2ll_NgRI9QasVxKdazKofqeisU-ROG_473C9yvaVrQ" style="margin-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px;" width="400" /></span></div><p dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: #222222; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"></span><span style="background-color: transparent; color: #222222; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: justify;"> </p><p dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: #222222; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">I found everything I was looking for at </span><a href="https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/6412585995029504644/5900937969931939860" style="text-decoration-line: none;"><span style="background-color: yellow; color: #1155cc; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; text-decoration-line: underline; text-decoration-skip-ink: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Spring Hill Nursery</span></a><span style="background-color: yellow; color: #222222; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">.</span><span style="background-color: transparent; color: #222222; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> Ironically, they were my go-to online nursery where i purchased several of my plantings when I first started my garden in 2006.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: #222222; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The peonies I am adding is as follows. </span><a href="https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/6412585995029504644/5900937969931939860" style="text-decoration-line: none;"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: #1155cc; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; text-decoration-line: underline; text-decoration-skip-ink: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Belle Toulousaine Itoh Peony </span></a><span style="background-color: transparent; color: #222222; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">...When she arrived, she was dormant...merely a little tuberous rhizome and once planted began sprouting life in just a few weeks. originally planted on the top tier of the rose terrace in my landscape. The 10
or so roses over time did not do well. In 2020 I removed all of the roses in
that area and relocated the remaining roses to different locations in my
landscape. Winchester Cathedral roses now resides on each side of a Gertrude Jekyll
in the Patio Garden. Another one has been placed right on the corner of the covered
patio lining the flagstone pathway. I really wanted to salvage these roses to
use as cut flowers for arrangements. The new locations have allowed me to have
easier access to keeping an eye on them to monitor mildew and black spot. I did
have one that partially died back to its mother plant Mary that produces both
the Mary and Winchester Cathedral on the same shrub. Its fragrance is an old
rose scent and repeatedly blooms throughout summer. Growth height and wide is
said to be 4x4. This rose
was introduced in 2002 by David Austin. I planted two years ago (own root) and
it didn’t survive. The nursery replaced it with another and that one did not
thrive, so that same nursery gave me a third one to try – this third one was more
established which I believe will be successful. The rose is planted in the
Secret Garden growing inside of a white obelisk. I think that the height has
made a difference because of the density of plantings in this space. I moved
the other that was barely alive to the front entrance garden gate to replace
Zephirine Droughn. I am hoping with the less dense plantings and all-day
sunshine it will be happier. I hope to use this one as a cut flower because the
cabbage rose blooms are just gorgeous and the fragrance is amazing. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Garden Zone 5-10<o:p></o:p></p>Fishtail Cottagehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14490056923743934726noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6412585995029504644.post-1000009867393669382022-03-23T17:39:00.001-07:002022-03-23T17:39:25.117-07:00Vineyard Song Rose<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiDQlYsHmjKlBkXexLSELSnzcBH85WAdFHBbjfY0CT7xLjsbziFxcQMW7f1zVfMJO77vZpsrfQtrON4h-wfJ5Uf3Cj6ZHVAI2I8sVEqn-UTorRFjQjRuTNtrcLQ1K0b0hufl5YBubjtYE9ViqeoHi8Ico8g-lN7llYAr-43hP2eSm3ApBRzJlvvryTz=s1430" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="953" data-original-width="1430" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiDQlYsHmjKlBkXexLSELSnzcBH85WAdFHBbjfY0CT7xLjsbziFxcQMW7f1zVfMJO77vZpsrfQtrON4h-wfJ5Uf3Cj6ZHVAI2I8sVEqn-UTorRFjQjRuTNtrcLQ1K0b0hufl5YBubjtYE9ViqeoHi8Ico8g-lN7llYAr-43hP2eSm3ApBRzJlvvryTz=w640-h426" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Vineyard Song Rose which was bred by Ralph S. Garden” behind the fireplace of our covered patio. It is situated under a
gorgeous Rose of Sharon which means it does get more shade in the later summer
than in the earlier spring/summer timeframe. This rose is probably one of the
most fragrant roses in my landscape – l love that its planted close to our
outdoor seating area so that we can enjoy each bloom. This beauty makes an
excellent cut flower for any floral arrangement. The color is gorgeous in my
landscape. Its size is approximately 3 feet tall and wide. I love returning to old photos of the garden and seeing how it all has evolved over the years.... revisit plants I've lost over time and wondering why? plants I no longer have because of my own doing and deciding what I need to reintroduce because I loved them so much at one time. Over time, I've realized that sometimes it's the placement, the changes in the landscape. Such as two years ago - I decided to remove some very large arborvitaes from the entrance of my secret garden which entirely changes the entire area from shade to full sunshine. In retrospect, I should have removed some of the shade plants instead of watching them struggle over the past year, however I've also learned some actually do thrive well in place...they just may die back when the summer heat arrives and go dormant until the next season. The problem is the space looks awful because I have yet to plant more in that area to cover what is lost for the rest of the garden season. </p><p>So, here I am on New Year's Eve, 2020 ordering plants and seeds for next season. Some are carefully thought out and others, I've just whimsically "added to cart" because why not just try something new. You are probably wondering the same thing i am... where on earth will I plant anything new. What a great question and something I honestly am not going to worry about today. There is always room for more. Sometimes I lose plants over the winter but also, I am afraid of what would happen if I left a bare spot in the landscape. There always has to be room for error - something that has struggled for years and just needs to be tossed and start over. Another issue that the lighting is constantly changing, something that once was shaded is now in full sunshine and vice versa...a fabulous and outstanding concept to learn and let go of controlling everything. The garden is constantly evolving and I'm constantly moving, dividing and arranging new ideas every year. Ordering new plants gives me so much to look forward to. </p><p>If you've been to one of my garden tours, you'll recognize that I always have something blooming and when that bloom begins to fade, I have something else happily arriving right behind it. I try to recognize all seasons, although late spring early summer bloom season is my absolute favorite to enjoy. You also have probably noticed that I always plant the same plant in masses, particularly 3/5 (odd numbers) throughout the garden. Mostly because if it works well and I love it, why not plant more. However - new plants are introduced every year, so trying new and different plants is fun for me to try and share with others my thoughts. </p><p>Wondering what landed not just in my cart but actually purchased? I'll share below. Many new gardeners forget the tried-and-true heirloom flowers such as the bearded iris. they rank one of my top favorites in my gardens even if the blooms only last a few days. They do require 'some' attention to divide every few years and make sure the rhizome isn't buried below the surface every fall. But these beauties are ones that are collected and traded among avid gardeners. The bearded iris that I ordered to add to my landscape are: Constant Wattez, Blessed Again, Cherished </p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjuX95vaZQFs5RxwbtXMKph2lQMhKPXVjY60pJBuZbE6bG-uhbIFv0F-Icd-XCjnrRJHppqs0K9KwiZpRlTJsAmd6w7TPgcHIIAlLfOVz9ZuuAmaYIfK9P-dK--Izd9Hiafa4h0ZjAl-RnNL_m-_Wq_i9xJ22kBThUzrXrer87VH5afAgam2Z5K2vq5=s1155" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="813" data-original-width="1155" height="450" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjuX95vaZQFs5RxwbtXMKph2lQMhKPXVjY60pJBuZbE6bG-uhbIFv0F-Icd-XCjnrRJHppqs0K9KwiZpRlTJsAmd6w7TPgcHIIAlLfOVz9ZuuAmaYIfK9P-dK--Izd9Hiafa4h0ZjAl-RnNL_m-_Wq_i9xJ22kBThUzrXrer87VH5afAgam2Z5K2vq5=w640-h450" width="640" /></a></div><p></p><p><b><u>Plants </u></b>in the garden are very difficult to find a spot for, and every spring I struggle with remembering so many of my plants are in fact perennials which don't appear right away, so when I am planting new plants, I carefully dig before actually planting. However, it's easy to refer to photos and try to establish where those 'dirt spots' are. Another thing that I have been known to do is hold onto plants in plastic planters and add to the landscape during their bloom season. Doing so makes it easier to make sure the new plant won't be lost in other perennials and or devoured by bunnies before I know it's really there. The new plants that will arrive this spring are: Harlem Oriental Poppy, Cherry Fluff Echinacea, Veronica Perfectly Picasso, Coreopsis UpTick Cream, Veronica White Wands, Coneflower Magnus, Coneflower Lemon Drop, Pink Shelford Eremurus, Creme de la Creme Phlox, Meadow Rue, Pearl Tuberose, Chocamocha Cosmos, Gallery Yellow Lupine, Gallery Pink Lupine, Gallery Red Lupine, Marmalade Heuchera, Bleeding Hearts, Ascot Rainbow Euphorbia, Otto Quast Spanish Lavender, Isabella Lily, Tiger Edition Lily, Magic Star Lily, Vermeer Lily, The Pearl Tuberosa, Polar Star Lily, Exotic Sun Lily, Hollyhock double mix </p><p>Annuals Marshmallow Pink Fuchsia, Estrella Peach Verbena, Cupid Rose Sweet Pea, White Bacopa, White Calibrachoa, </p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjoUnL58jeSon3TUVbjL4Da1qW6HWyYM9lYY3Z5DbUNy3onhlr0-cklmhxhGwGMZiMFoRntpnp1EgqO0za-ImYwV1zZZ5Ohkhi60GmbnR8EcenQ0QCVpZdrk-r4OGpy1G5cez2J1LyUyu2NZbOXbmr7tiMf2-7oOroWx28OnhdNQmCzI0oTJNg4sbIl=s1290" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="883" data-original-width="1290" height="438" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjoUnL58jeSon3TUVbjL4Da1qW6HWyYM9lYY3Z5DbUNy3onhlr0-cklmhxhGwGMZiMFoRntpnp1EgqO0za-ImYwV1zZZ5Ohkhi60GmbnR8EcenQ0QCVpZdrk-r4OGpy1G5cez2J1LyUyu2NZbOXbmr7tiMf2-7oOroWx28OnhdNQmCzI0oTJNg4sbIl=w640-h438" width="640" /></a></div><p></p><p><br /><b><u>Hellebore </u></b>need to be sectioned off away from my list of "plants". These beauties are the first to appear in my landscape and the first year I always hold off planting them until later in the season. Mostly because these will also be planted in the garden after other perennials have arrived. It's important to me that when I plant them they will go in a spot that most likely will be covered up by others later in the summertime. I have so many Helleborus in my landscape and want to make sure these new ones are highlighted for me myself and I. The hellebores that will be carefully added to my landscape this year are: Honeymoon Series; California Dreaming </p><p><br /></p><p><b><u></u></b></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b><u><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgycZffohWW469-W1yR8wTEt_f7cQWsSoDSw6DCO3Oo9jaJNU6sZS6EL5zIXfcLK_-TPS7cBlqWG6-8M7cY_U0wLKlYfIzf0GaCuPNGdoN0wvtRzoIHLiqfaUIJxFsIc5-sam_YqDR7Gc3E2V7tcz7GVPLE4wK_vaTcGSha77zTFzV_6LKcK8ptrRNl=s1012" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="706" data-original-width="1012" height="446" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgycZffohWW469-W1yR8wTEt_f7cQWsSoDSw6DCO3Oo9jaJNU6sZS6EL5zIXfcLK_-TPS7cBlqWG6-8M7cY_U0wLKlYfIzf0GaCuPNGdoN0wvtRzoIHLiqfaUIJxFsIc5-sam_YqDR7Gc3E2V7tcz7GVPLE4wK_vaTcGSha77zTFzV_6LKcK8ptrRNl=w640-h446" width="640" /></a></u></b></div><b><u><br />Bulbs </u></b>always make me think of spring. However, many of my most favorites appear in mid-summer when there is so much beauty already in the garden. I particularly love bulbs because they don't take a lot of space in the garden and have a huge impact where its placed. Luckily with bulbs you can start them in containers and move them later to most glorious spot that you can enjoy for years to come. I did plant several spring bulbs last fall such as allium, tulips, daffodils and many others, but the ones I ordered are all mid-summer bloomers that will be showcased as they appear: Gladiolus Parrot Mix, Roselily Carolina Lily, Bright Diamond Lily, Big Brother Lily, White Prosperity Gladiolus, Eyeliner Lily, Baferrari lily, Brasillia Lily <p></p><p><b>Ranunculus </b>are also a new attempt that i tried last year and was unsuccessful. So, with the help of some other gardeners encouraging me to try again - I am! Instead of starting them indoors and transplanting outside, I planted directly last fall and right now (late January of 2022) I believe I am seeing their foliage begin to appear. So that is a great sign that maybe I did it right? Time will tell. This year I planted several of the each of the following. Amandine Pastel Mix, Amandine Pastel Lemon, Tecolate Cafe and Amandine Purple Jean. (I'll add a photo when or if i see a bloom here in this post).</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhQlf5jxZtkRTQ7n0jb03YS4XqHMlpQVX-lnnr27K4qQu4gFL3sTbeJf-CWa6H9F_CXLNYk_KxGsA56N4F8eM2DYbpRQ0BrXwqycxsUH05yqcz2bgZt0tsgGMqvOKujdG-sckWiFGTbOdH296RG7ILcmD1yGtdtK73UXIJyrnyGa7b5Um0qSDVod6H3=s1944" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1296" data-original-width="1944" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhQlf5jxZtkRTQ7n0jb03YS4XqHMlpQVX-lnnr27K4qQu4gFL3sTbeJf-CWa6H9F_CXLNYk_KxGsA56N4F8eM2DYbpRQ0BrXwqycxsUH05yqcz2bgZt0tsgGMqvOKujdG-sckWiFGTbOdH296RG7ILcmD1yGtdtK73UXIJyrnyGa7b5Um0qSDVod6H3=w640-h426" width="640" /></a></div><b><u>Dahlias </u></b>and i are still getting to know one another. This will be my third summer with them. My first year was completely experimental, just to learn and watch. I enjoyed them so much in bouquets and surprised with how little maintenance they required that I decided I need more. The second year I did add more but think I planted them too late along with moving several when I shouldn't have, I had a very late (if any) bloom season with them. I did leave them in the ground both years and some didn't return so I decided to add more in place where i lost some and also add more to sporadically bloom in all the garden beds. Dahlias that will be planted when they arrive are as follows: GoGo White, Tyrell, Break Out, Cafe au Lait, Cotton Candy, Tyrell Gifts Perfection, Fairway Spur, Penhill Watermelon, Rip City, Sparticus, Happy Single Kiss, Franz Kafka, Rocco, Blue Bell, Snow Country, Milenor Fleur,Crazy Love, Kelvin Floodlight, and Babylon Bronze<div><br /><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj8hVGaIrQMqWoXKlbSTDol0jd1_lHlb_8URXoOWrB7W4FD3nET8X4dgzo0V7fOWyaJmNloJzCTNDpRxc2Y6oQP6vGJpEoePHS6Ik73W6glGsb1GowFqZ2AQuMXajFwVZEj7TEq1d-xuH0M-HPL9-dUNNzSaId94PTfw1RvrafOj5Tf_XbwHlHoKbLz=s1455" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="885" data-original-width="1455" height="390" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj8hVGaIrQMqWoXKlbSTDol0jd1_lHlb_8URXoOWrB7W4FD3nET8X4dgzo0V7fOWyaJmNloJzCTNDpRxc2Y6oQP6vGJpEoePHS6Ik73W6glGsb1GowFqZ2AQuMXajFwVZEj7TEq1d-xuH0M-HPL9-dUNNzSaId94PTfw1RvrafOj5Tf_XbwHlHoKbLz=w640-h390" width="640" /></a></div><b><u>Peonies </u></b>are definitely something that I don't need more of, however there are so many new varieties that have come on the market and would look delicious in spring bouquets that I just had to order a couple. Unfortunately, it may take a few years to benefit from these blooms, I'm awfully excited to look forward to seeing them perform in my garden Peonies that I'm adding to my already excited to receive are: Caroline Constabel Itoah, Black Beauty, Singing in the Rain Intersecional, Benjamin Franklin and several more Sarah Bernhardt<p></p><p><br /></p><p><b><u></u></b></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b><u><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjoUDwa6ZFJpNptJu3vAa2UUFDEOch-0U6_tpRFGXLR-a0NCk8BqMdbtl8O2f7JdL1NfNa001Y39IXLcvc-A2hjNBzuhTe132_0nyWO13jWzSM1JuxGDeAmHP7NZMh6EobXGoZMkwvunbcJI2mIH2phEq9IHQPR9rd7G19If2sVS1crTSRoge8PUWQp=s1314" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="870" data-original-width="1314" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjoUDwa6ZFJpNptJu3vAa2UUFDEOch-0U6_tpRFGXLR-a0NCk8BqMdbtl8O2f7JdL1NfNa001Y39IXLcvc-A2hjNBzuhTe132_0nyWO13jWzSM1JuxGDeAmHP7NZMh6EobXGoZMkwvunbcJI2mIH2phEq9IHQPR9rd7G19If2sVS1crTSRoge8PUWQp=w640-h424" width="640" /></a></u></b></div><b><u><br />Seeds </u></b>are such a waste of money in my opinion, however sometimes I've gotten lucky, and the gamble feels worth it to try again. So many seeds don't survive the weather and the local wildlife and disappear before I've been able to see the beauty, I imagined in my mind...but some, some do survive and the generosity of the plants that make it is outstanding and so worth the risk. Which is why I always come back to the idea of ordering more. The ones that do make it, I selfishly collect the seeds from the pods after the spent blooms dry out and save them in labeled seed packets to try again with them the next year. Some years I have so many that I've collected and even had the pleasure to share with others. Whenever I save seeds, I always add those little silica packets from shoe boxes to keep the seeds from molding. I also have learned to just direct sow seeds...if I had a greenhouse, I may think differently. in memory of 9 baby ducklings that showed up in our backyard with their momma
in 2010. One by one nature took them
away, in the end the momma duck walked in misery around the backyard calling
for her babies until she finally flew away.
This rose is planted on a pole with a birdhouse on top in the Secret
Garden honoring those babies because it was important for my children at the
time. This climbing rose blooms are double ruffles both this orange color along
with a light yellow mix – both of which symbolize the colors of the ducklings.
It has had some bouts with black spot that is easy to keep under control. I
approximate this rose to be about 12 feet high and 3 feet wide and its
fragrance is present when you walk by in the garden. <p class="MsoNormal">Souvenir de la Malmaison is a cherished old rose that I have
growing on the picket fence that boarders the flagstone pathway on the West
side of my home. It had been disease free for years that only produced the most
fragrant roses. This bourbon rose is approximately 6 feet tall and 8 feet wide
along the fence. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This space is in morning
shade but hot afternoon sunshine which is why I believe this rose shrub
thrives. This rose does like to be pruned which promotes new growth. On one
side of this rose is planted Excellenz Von Sheubert and I plan to plant the
Ancient Mariner on the other side. This rose makes an excellent cut flower and
has a long vase life. planter opposite of Claire Austin. I imagine this English rose growing over the
wooden arbor of the new swing set built in the backyard in 2020. Strawberry
Hill seems to be thriving in this planter environment showing its pretty pink
lemon scented blooms cascading over the edge of the planter. When I did research,
this rose says it is only going to grow to a height and width of 4 feet.
Although I have also read that this rose will grow up to 10 feet – so, time

given up on doing so and just let it be. If I had known it would send off

It is a super pretty, one-time bloomer (June/July)

<p class="MsoNormal">Connie’s Sandstorm grandiflora rose is one I ordered
directly from the breeder…Burling Roses. When I received this rose, there were
two starts of it and they both were very flimsy starts to a shrub that quickly
over the summer became a robust cane. I kept them in pots on my patio to get
started and closely watched them and pulled off any new buds that I saw so that
it could establish its root system. Just recently planted both on the flagstone
path inside the fence close to the house in the mixed boarder of roses behind
boxwoods. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It is becoming a new favorite
in the garden partly because it was so hard to find and also after all summer
of giving it all of my TLC, I can see its potential of being a fabulous rose
shrub. Showing little to no disease issues. There is only a mild scent to the
rose but seems to make an excellent cut flower. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Garden Zone 6-10<o:p></o:p></p>Fishtail Cottagehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14490056923743934726noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6412585995029504644.post-75739777431405035952021-06-03T13:17:00.000-07:002021-06-03T13:17:00.355-07:00Polar Joy Rose Trees<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXNsKhW47i0S5d26OoVFSVyGn2B6wPDxtZfwJJq0TDq9FFGNqpT7oI0TTWNtza8uJmusVZioU_aDMADmnbmQODFBHq-HwUfgJEs3rrbRnm5Pe3Qi8eOtK1glCx_IPAlsmjCFhE_ZU9aQo/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="416" data-original-width="624" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXNsKhW47i0S5d26OoVFSVyGn2B6wPDxtZfwJJq0TDq9FFGNqpT7oI0TTWNtza8uJmusVZioU_aDMADmnbmQODFBHq-HwUfgJEs3rrbRnm5Pe3Qi8eOtK1glCx_IPAlsmjCFhE_ZU9aQo/w640-h426/image.png" width="640" /></a></div><p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Polar Joy Tree roses were brought into the landscape in
2008. There are six of them that line the front walk of the garden from the
front door to the garden gate. This tree rose is unlike most others because it
is grown on its own root stalk and stem – which makes it considered to be the hardiest
of all tree roses. These trees are in full all day sunshine with clusters of
stunning pink flowers with yellow centers. The branches do grow long and need
occasional pruning throughout the summer. I keep the tree itself approximately 7
feet tall with a 3 feet spread. I do amend the soil at least once a year in the
bedding area so that these trees along with the other plantings will thrive. This
tree rose is a constant battle with rust, black spot and mildew in the PNW but
the pretty pink flowers that bloom the entire spring/summer/fall season make up
for the extra care needed. There is a clean fragrance to this rose. I have not
used it as a cut flower. Special mention – it has a beautiful fall color. Garden Zone

A few weeks ago we received at least three days of snow equaling in approximately a foot for us. I know for some that isn't a lot, but for us, it was more than enough. It lasted only a few days and melted away - which is the way I really like to see the snow here. See the beauty, snap a few photo's .... and let it go away without a fuss. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrN7iyfmkyoRx7fODqA87mtxl_5z7y3IXVMz8atVz08ZAQvLO4VLXTPZFqHYwzJRUyvcQ4FVC7IVMRpr8Ni0vPMnSKSJRbz-43UKggB49VbqTcmbZmFNN_eqHiB2KmOVmGTGcfjSjFWpg/s1620/ECAD9668-E0EF-43F8-AAAA-437DA2F7E6C0.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; It is also great for perennials that need some cold temperatures to give us beauty later in the garden season. Of course one of the first things I did was cut a bouquet with winter camellia blooms for our family room. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2qpha1zsPqKSQP9DwJ_ljZocqFYlLl4RFcHKzdMc9pazdXx5AnGDYtbzj1o_cD62Wh8TTqhOFfIEb_jFnt2vgiYczUFgmZ9n5WR7y3q0zC_nS3zPKPrcpBkOqcRwlcvYJFSfsvrfDyic/s1800/135701454_3705982456107903_5511741086048740787_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1800" data-original-width="1440" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2qpha1zsPqKSQP9DwJ_ljZocqFYlLl4RFcHKzdMc9pazdXx5AnGDYtbzj1o_cD62Wh8TTqhOFfIEb_jFnt2vgiYczUFgmZ9n5WR7y3q0zC_nS3zPKPrcpBkOqcRwlcvYJFSfsvrfDyic/w512-h640/135701454_3705982456107903_5511741086048740787_o.jpg" width="512" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Living through a remodel is not an easy process, but the end result and hindsight is everything!!!! So to give you a list of everything we did is as follows.... removing several plantation shutters from certain rooms in the house to bring in more lighting, refinishing the hardwood flooring with a darker stain, replacing carpet on the stairs and upstairs hallway, new carpet in upstairs bedrooms and bonus room, new countertops on bathroom counters, new tile on flooring in bathrooms, most all walls and trim in the entire house, painted a couple pieces of furniture in my home office, new railings, new hardware throughout the kitchen and bathrooms, mirrors and lighting. </div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">After moving everything out of the house for all of the work that had to be done, i was selective about what came back inside. I also moved furniture around to different places in our home to change things up a bit. I've also added so many houseplants that are thriving now because of the lighter conditions we have inside now. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Soooo, with all of that said, welcome to our new home! It feels so fresh and comforting with all of the updates we did over the past couple months. I love wondering the house and tending to normal chores a little differently...i am obsessed with the vintage touches combined to traditional home decor, for some reason, everything just feels like it goes well together now. I truly feel that the inside of our home match with the cottage feel that I've created on the outside and makes my heart so happy.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; If you are local, (local is within an hour of zip code 98011) I do charge for drive time. I come out to your home to get a sense of your personal style and maintenance desires. I feel that the outside landscape should work with your personal style along with what is inside your home, mixing the two is important so you feel like your space is your own. I take measurements and photo's and come home to work on your specific project tailored to just you and your property. I'll create a design along with plant suggestions which includes names with links so that you can see visually what i am recommending. I have many resources that I personally use and will share if i see a need. I will only recommend a company or service if specified - but the scope of work itself is not something that i do or have a staff to execute. After the first five hours are completed, i will bill for each hour at my hourly rate of $100. per hour. If we do not use all of the $500. I will refund the remaining balance to you. With this plan I create for you - you can execute as time and money allow. </p><p>*if you are not local, I can also create the same model catered to your personal landscape virtually. I have done this several times and can provide references. </p><p><u><b>Garden Coaching</b></u>: I charge $200.upfront which goes towards the first two hours. If you are local, (local is within an hour of zip code 98011) I do charge for drive time. I come out to your home and walk the current landscape with you. I document what you have in your gardens and take photos. After leaving your home, i come home and create a document naming the plants, trees and shrubs with photo's and share how to care for the plants. This service is specifically tailored to your garden landscape. I can also make additional recommendations for your gardens if you wish. This is a great tool for new home owners and real estate agents as well. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDVTtVtOWcHUf4FaaQu1MU_KKQyGH42vS94cB8gN8eukYVmuHNph4nOY6yXP-5LRMUY3PqH7MyFw3JXswnMFMP6FlNh_DX3jPe1z-UkgvTEv2LGdfXzEJLRDnDZxwcImnGIcKjUdGHv9I/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="1365" data-original-width="2048" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDVTtVtOWcHUf4FaaQu1MU_KKQyGH42vS94cB8gN8eukYVmuHNph4nOY6yXP-5LRMUY3PqH7MyFw3JXswnMFMP6FlNh_DX3jPe1z-UkgvTEv2LGdfXzEJLRDnDZxwcImnGIcKjUdGHv9I/w640-h426/IMG_8575.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><p></p><p><u><b>Garden Planters:</b></u> $150. per planter, you are required to provide the planter.
