Great Room…(re-decorated…again)

I cannot believe how many times in the past couple years we have redecorated our great room.  It’s the main entertaining room in our home, besides our kitchen,  so having a welcoming and room that feels the way I want it to, has been a challenge for me. I know our ‘style’ is always evolving, but this is starting to feel ridiculous. The couches we purchased two years ago just would not hold it’s shape.  My husband did not want to start a war with the local boutique where we purchased them, nor did he feel the manufacturer was listening to the issue.  So we went to a big box store that we know would back their product up if such an issue occurred again.  Sad to say, but I think that buying big items from well known stores and smaller items from boutiques is the way to go moving forward.

We purchased the Turner sectional from Pottery Barn.  My family loves it!  I, on the other hand am playing with ways to make this space my own by putting my own twist in here.

Relocating the Tillamook Cheese Crate I had never found a permanent place for and using it as a coffee table was a fantastic introduction to the room. I can’t have a large area rug in this area because of my three shih tzu’s ~ they like to leave a mark on any rugs, so I moved this one from our front entry and placed it here to see how this works out.  I layered it with a faux sheepskin to give a little texture to the space. Pulling out our old canvas Restoration Hardware pillow covers to toss around on the couch makes this space a little more relaxed too.  I found the lamps at Target this past week and simplified the sofa table vignette.

My faux fireplace is what I’m really working on this week, I just don’t know what to put above the mantle ~ any suggestions are appreciated!
I’ve relocated my two chairs that previously sat in my master bedroom sitting room.  I love these chairs in just about any location around my home.

Also now using these rustic crates as a side table are working perfectly!

I stacked Rachel Ashwell books to place my lamp on and this old scale is available to use as a drink coaster…IMG_8657
I just wonder how many more times, I’ll be re-creating this room?  For now, any mantle suggestions are welcome! xoxo, tracie

I'd say that if anyone can make a beautiful leather couch seem cottagey, you can! It's beautiful and with your touches it will be just right. We are also in a couch dilemma right now. The couch we bought almost 3 years ago is already too slouchy for my liking. We are going to pass it to our son and get a new one. Buying is overwhelming though because you never really know what you are getting and how it will hold up.

I understand about the dogs. We have carpet upstairs and our dog is blocked off. Ugh!

The mantle is on my list today too. I'll be coming back to see if anyone has great ideas. I played with my preserved boxwood wreath but always worry that it looks too much like Christmas.

OH Tracie it is luvly. I swear mine is moved about and redone at least once a month .. hahahaha... no lie. It has to change with my mood :)
Working from home, I get bored with it pretty quickly!
Luv, luv the crate as the coffee table and I am going back for a second look at those lamps.

As always just lovely! So happy you could party this week. I always love stopping by to visit.
Love the scale as a coaster idea!

My couch and chair are Pottery Barn slip-covered and I wouldn't have anything else with two large labs and a husband that likes dirt, especially when I found out I can buy replacement cushions if my original start to break down!

I love what you have done,it looks great.
Love the changes...your home always looks so beautiful! We bought a PB sectional for our family room last year too and love it!
Tracie,
Your room is beautiful...looks very comfy!!

Blessings,
Linda
Tracie,
I too, am constantly arranging and re-arranging. It drives my husband crazy.
I purchased my sofas almost 17 years ago and they are still sturdy and the cushions puffy. I made slip-covers a long time ago that protect them and are washable.
I have two chairs exactly like yours. I need to bring them up and make slip covers and new pillows. Thanks for inspiring me.
Five or six years ago I swapped out our expensive coffee and end tables for an antique trunk and a set of graduated florentine tables. I loved the change but my husband thought I was crazy.
I love your pillows. They are the perfect compliment.
Have a lovely weekend.

Looks like you have your priorities strait. People, dogs then the look of the room, which by the way looks great.good job. My suggestion for the mantle would be to keep it light with one big object like a mirror without a frame or even put one of your pillows on a stretcher frame. I love the look of your chairs and the lamp.

Hi Tracy, I am starting to shop for sectionals as well and this one is one I am looking at......Will have to make it up North to a Pottery Barn location so I can sit on it. I see they have 2 colors, yours is the darker brown correct? Is it holding up pretty good????
