MZ Austria Plates…
Like many of you, Estate Sales catch our eye as we drive down the road and if our family isn’t in the car with us ~ the tires squeal below us not to miss the turn! I was so excited that I stopped at this side of the road estate sale as coming upon these two plates, made me so giddy! I have shared with you before that I collect vintage plates and use them for barbeques and festive get together. I love the mix and match floral pieces that I can share with my guests.
These I presume are luncheon plates, which are different from the ones I currently have on hand. They measure 8 1/2 inches with beautiful petite flowers with a green and white ivy lining the rim. The gold trim is faded in some areas which I find adorable. There are no chips or visible scratches. But you know what my favorite part about these plates is…? the sweet flower in the very center!
On the bottom of both plates there is a marking that shows “MZ Austria” – I looked on line and found that MZ Austria is the wording on a mark used by Moritz Zdekauer on porcelain s made at his works in Altrolau Austria from 1884-1909. Zdekauer’s company exported pieces to American and Dutch colonies before it was bought by another company. The markings were then changed to MZ Altrolau in 1909 when the firm was purchased by CM Hutschenreuther. The firm operated under the name Altrolau Porcelain Factories from 1909 – 1945 and was nationalized after World War 11. Because I know that these plates were made before 1909 and the scalloped edging seems to be more rare at that point in history, I presume I found something pretty great!

Hello! sweetie!!
What a wonderful find!!
Gorgeous! I love the roses and swags.
I have a similar set that I found at the flea market for $100. 12 settings plus several serving pieces (a few are chipped but I still have 10 good place settings).
Wish we lived closer. What fun we could have together hitting the flea markets, tag and estate sales.
Can't wait for spring! so I can participate in your Cottage Garden Party!
Luv, Luv,
Elizabeth
