Vintage Royal Sealy Tea cup & saucer…

It’s been a while since I’ve participated in the blogger tea parties… I’ve been so focused on the gardens here at Fishtail Cottage rather than anything indoors.  I thought maybe I should feature my tea cup collection individually with you…

Today I will share this gorgeous three footed tea cup & saucer bearing the mark by Royal Sealy in Japan. Most of my cups and saucers are not marked so it’s a joy to be able to share this one with you! The inside of the cup is ‘mother of pearl’ with a soft yellow in color with gold sponge like edge. The entire cup has a opalescent luster finish.

Cup measures 3.5 inches & saucer is 5 3/4 inches.

Research refers that this cup and saucer may be from the 1940’s.  Please do share if you have more information on my Royal Sealy tea cup.

There is a wonderful book on teacups. You can find it in the antique guide reference books in antique malls that sell these kinds of books or Barnes & Noble. Worth every penny.

What a lovely set! Royal Sealy made some great ones. The set actually dates somewhere between 1954 when the Occupied Japan era ended and the end of the 1960s. A great find!

You have a lovely blog and that tea cup is gorgeous. Thank you for sharing it. I also read about your friend and her story about melanoma. I found a melanoma on my face which was removed and facial reconstruction done about a year and a half ago. I now go every three months to be checked. The story you posted is so very important.

Oh and did you notice the fluted zinc galvanized bottom on the birdcage? It is a vintage bottom to a chicken feeder, you with your coop and chickens I thought you might have been charmed by that one as well!

I love this design so much that I have started collecting this specific 'scalloped' style. I have a total of 6 and none of them have the same gold design, which I love. Always looking to expand my collection, if you're willing to sell. It is beautiful and definitely a rare find. You are very lucky, treasure it!

I know this thread is a little old but I just bought this same pattern in green, from a 50 year estate sale. The seller made mention of this being from the 40's as well.

Hi there - How do you find resources on identifying markings on tea cups?? I have one that looks similar to this style (the handle and the gold paint) but is different colorings. The marking is just a coat of arms and an "M" in it. Nothing I find on the net references it. Please help! email me at akemi.lifestyle@gmail.com

I also have one of the same, and another tea cup and saucer light green in color. handed down from family.... I would sell but not sure how to go about it. They have been tucked away quite awhile.... So, for the fun of it, with a different old cup and saucer....I made hot tea and for the first time since I was a child and used a tea cup and saucer and yeah, maybe it did taste better, but in the back of my mind I could see myself and my Grandmother sitting at her table and hear these words she said to me," Becareful, now take that spoon out of that cup before you poke your eye out with it. That's what the saucer is for!" Yep,for sure, that was the best tea ever......... Sharon
