It’s okay to get help, right?

Most of you who follow Fishtail Cottage – know that I take pride in the fact that I have designed my cottage garden myself, hand chosen every single plant that has gone into the landscape and planted it myself!  I have yet to ask for help outside of my husband!  However with hitting the five year milestone of living here in this home, and feeling a bit overwhelmed with what I have accomplished – my husband has convinced me to treat myself with some help!  Here is what the garden looks like this am!

The shrubs need a little trimming; the trees need some guidance and the garden needs some, well – “control” of the seedlings that have seemed to leap! Of course some mulch will help as well!

030So I’ve hired the perfect company to do all this for me…& they are here today & probably tired of me going out there just about every five minutes to make sure they are doing it all “right”!!!!

I feel like I just gave up control of my most prized possession! but I know I can’t be super woman for everything! My stomach is in knots as to what if they pull the wrong plant, or damage a garden bulb? or what if they just do it wrong? ugh…I’d be lying if I didn’t say I wasn’t in panic mode right now!

Oh, how I wish someone could come help me.....I'm so overwhelmed with my garden this year. Which is why I haven't been sharing many photos:-( I just don't have the time like I used to when my kids were younger. Hopefully, that time will present itself again some year and until then, my garden will be a little neglected.

Can't wait to see the results. Sit back and relax!

It is definitely alright. We all do nothing but get older where we need help. For me that is why I am changing over to mostly flowering shrubs since it's not as much care. Enjoy the help.

Oh my goodness, your garden is gorgeous! WOW! and... yes it is ok to get help, let them do some of the mulching and trimming and digging and weeding and stuff, and you do the creative part!

Your garden is so lovely, I'm a little jealous, not really, but I do admire it, but it's okay to have help once in a while! Sit back and enjoy it and DO NOT feel guilty!

I feel what you're going through! I've been offered help in the past, by professionals, and there's that whole trust factor. Some times I WANT that underdog, that little plant that is struggling so! Or maybe I like the wild look in certain instances. Looking forward to the after pictures.

I hired some professionals to weed once. They did a great job, but I was on pins and needles the entire time. That's because the year before I had hired some teenager who had ripped up a lot of my new plants! I'm certain yours will do great, and you will be so relieved to have it all done.

oh, I know exactly what you mean...my garden is too big, almost overwhelming...but...its hard to let someone in, I would have the same fears....good luck!!!!

If you hired professionals, they will know what to do.
I finally gave in and got help with design for our backyard when we removed the rest of the grass. Many of the garden gurus I know still get professional help for various reasons even though they could probably do the job themselves.
It will be nice to see your after photos.

It is scary to give up control, isn't it? And it is so beautiful that it would be a shame to have someone destroy even one bit of it!

I know that we all need help sometimes..and I know that I should give in and have someone do some work for me outside. Maybe I will -you are a good model for that! I can't wait to see the after pictures- xo Diana

Dear Tracie,
My hubby and I have hit rock bottom. So much work and so little time. I love my garden but I also like some time to enjoy it too..I may be hiring help next season..or reducing the amount of gardens that we have..Something's got to give! LOL! The next time help arives you may feel much better..

You are a lucky duck. I put out yards and yards of pine straw (with hubbie's help) on Saturday, and we both had asthma attacks!
I look forward to seeing the finished garden! :D

PS I think it is very reasonable to get help.

I love seeing the overall views of your wonderful gardens. What a great place you have created... I'm also always excited to see the Japanese maples as that is a new area of experimentation for me. We are forecast a colder winter and I am very concerned that my many new maples will be ok. Thanks for the lovely tour! Larry

Love your lamp with the rustic touches. It inspired me to make a lamp shade out of a rusty old fence in the neighbors trash (shhhhh) i ended up stuck a few times but after alot of wire work, spraying it with clear coat and adding organza bows I'm in love so thank-you.

I'm new and am totally confused about how to make my own site or exactly where to post. but I love looking at all the beauty you ladies create!!!!
