You just can’t duplicate…

I was at the check out counter purchasing a festive fall soy candle and this trunk caught my eye.  You know the mesmerizing stare you sometimes give to something in a shop and can’t look away – because the wheels start spinning through your head with questions like, “How Cool is that?”; “Imagine what that was used for?” and “Where in the world would I put it?”.

Well it didn’t take me long to walk away from the counter to start inspecting the unique charm this box had to offer, the chippy paint, the rustic hardware.

Just as I was looking…two other ladies came to peek at it – well then I started to worry they would snatch it up before I could make up my mind…so I turned to the gal at the counter & whispered – “Okay, I’ll take this too!”

When I brought it home and asked for help unloading the trunk from the back of my car – my husband raised his eyebrow with a look of “what now?”…I replied, “Well, I’m not sure I’ll even keep it, I just thought it was really cool & didn’t want to leave it behind!

010So for the past couple weeks, it has sat in the garage with the lid open to air out…today I brought it inside and wiped it down & cleaned it out!  When I lifted it to lay on it’s side look what writing was underneath…”Tillamook”...makes me wonder – did it store cheese? love when the history of an item is a mystery!

So I moved it around to a few places and it finally found a spot under the kitchen hutch…not sure if it will stay, but for now it has a spot! Pretty cool huh…my thought is you just can’t duplicate the “real thing”.

It's perfect under the kitchen hutch and could be used to store so many things! I think it was definately a score!
ooooh, that is gorgeous,I bet you never part with it and it looks so good where you've put it. xx
I love this trunk! What a wonderful find and so smart of you to take it before others had a chance to! I've done that before, knowing I could take the item back if needed. I usually don't however =:)I have a similar trunk with its original deep red paint and old hardware. Not sure or its origin, but when I saw it some 20 years ago, I had to have it! It's been a coffee table, side table and now just sits in the family, storing items and displaying others on its lid. I love it! Thanks for sharing! Hugs, Leena

Way cool!
It is stunning...I used to have one back in another life time, alas shipping internationally on such a piece can be cost prohibitive...Maybe one day I will get as lucky as you and find another one.
I love your hutch too with all the lovely white pieces on it.

Looks great under the cabinet. It's really hard to pass up a great old wooden box like yours.

Neat find. What are you going to store in it?
I love old boxes. That one is such a great find. So glad you snatched it up. I hate when someone comes up behind you and grabs it while you are thinking. I lost an old chenille spread that way the other day!

Hi Tracie, wow, what a find!... that really is so cool, and it looks great where you put it!... I get that same "what now" look from Jack when I bring things like that home, but then he usually ends up liking them as much as I do... many times, I too buy something quickly when someone else starts to look at it in case they buy it and I miss out... we are so much alike!... enjoy it!... I have been to Tillamook Oregon many times, love it too, and I always buy their cheese! You need to research your gorgeous trunk!... xoxo Julie Marie
Love it Tracie! And that looks like the perfect spot too...

Very cool! And gotta say, I know that raised eyebrow look. I get it quite often. Good thing mine is a pushover. Sounds like yours is to. Had to laugh about the other two ladies coming up. NO PRESSURE! I have had this happen and know exactly what you were feeling. lol!
I think you found the perfect spot for that keeper!

If my husband and I were to have a common headstone, I think the words between our names just might be "Now what?"

Thank you for the laugh and congrats on the perfect purchase!
