Another Collected…

065It has been awhile since I have added to my collection of tea cups with three feet, but when I spotted this Tea cup and Saucer set, I knew it had to be mine.  It’s a very pretty floral design with burgundy highlights and gold trim. Feels very thin and delicate. On the bottom of the plate it states UCAGCO China…with a little research I found that UCAGCO actually means United China and Glass Company. It's offices were based in New Orleans and New York. Ucagco was primarily a distributor of dinnerware and glassware. 066They were the distributor of many Japanese china patterns during the early 1950's. United China & Glass Co. Inc., better known as UCAGCO, dating back to 1850. Founded by Abe Mayer and originally called Abe Mayer & Co., 063the importer did business throughout the Southeast U.S. as well as Central and South America. It wasn't until the 30's that the company took on the official trademark of UCAGCO and began expanding overseas. 064In fact, after the war, the company's agent in Japan, S.A. Stolaroff signed the very first contract allowing imports from Japan. A talented ceramic designer himself, Stolaroff worked alongside many Japanese potteries to lead the company's line of ceramics. In 1956, UCAGCO was sold to Sammons Enterprises and in 1962, Stolaroff, who had become the company's president, retired. (Information from gotheborg.com)

Beautiful and love the feet! I actually have one of those brands of cups and never looked up what it meant so that is very interesting. I saw a beautiful one from England at the thrift store yesterday that I've had my eye on -- it's pink and gold. It's marked 12.00 but it's 70% off week so I'm pretty tempted to go get it today.

Hello Tracie! So glad to see you here, and that you have a new little tea cup set. This three footer is sweet. I love the coloring too, as well as the very unique shape of the plate. I don't see many of the footed cups these days, but glad you were able to find this little treasure!
Hugs,
Terri
