hummm? Rumor about the new way to follow!

March 1st I posted the information (scroll to post below) to share with you a new way to follower here on my page.
I’ve been told that the information to be rid of google connect is just a rumor and the new linky is not necessary!  A friend sent this to me this am…
“ This is not true, I have been in direct contact with google and anyone who is linked with blogspot google blogger will not lose there GFC google friends connect. Googles own site is Google.blogspot.com and as they told me in our conversation why would they do away with there own GFC and lose there own following :)
I wish this big rumor would clear up, spread the word.
Official Google Blog: January 2011: Go to link above it will explain that Google is not getting rid of Blogger Friends Connect, just other sites such as typepad and so on. Google said anyone who linked google with Blogger did it right, googles own site is a Blogspot blog site Google Friends Connect site. Linky will not support the friends connect as google does.”

To keep my blog page simple ~ I myself will be removing the ‘linky followers” tool on my side bar. (I will connect all of those that signed up under that link to make sure they are following under the google link.

I was just visiting Michelle over at Emerald Cove and she has introduced a new way to follow your blogs since apparently Google Friend Connect will be no more as of March 1st.
It is called Linky Followers.
I have it set up on my sidebar.
I will let them explain it all because they do it so well, so click HERE to find out how you can add this and join up for FREE!!! It's So Very Cheri has some more great info about it as well.  You can also still follow along through email of RSS feed if that is preferred.

**Update: GFC will be discontinued for non-Blogger blogs, like Wordpress.

Take a look around and see what would work best for you but at least there is another option if GFC does leave Blogger as well some day.

xoox, tracie

Maybe Google changed their mind, as we still have the google gadget on our blogs and today is March 1st, what do you think? Either that or they are slow... Hugs Marilou
I've been waiting to see what would happen today, so...I have followed either way and have the linky follower on my blog as well.

You know, so far, Google connect is still working for me. I'm not sure what is going on! UGH- xo Diana
I was glad to see your update, I looked up the blogs today expecting to see a big hole where everyone had "follow me". I have the new linky tool, too. Thanks for the update!

I added that linky followers to my blog a few days ago as well. I don't like change, but I guess we have to roll with it if we want to keep up. :)
Blessings~
You know I wondered why they would do this, but I jumped on the bandwagon and added "Linky" too.
I like Google Connects set up better! Thanks for the info.

Tracie~
I knew that Google wasn't removing their Google Friend Connect for other Blogspot bloggers. The new linky is a way for those who have Wordpress, Typepad and their own .com to follow our blog. I am keeping my new linky for now until I hear if 'those' blogging friends don't use it. I don't wan't to lose any of my friends! :~P
Thanks for the heads up!
I lost my Google followers ( I have a wordpress blog) But the Google blog announcement only mentioned non blogger blogs for now. I follow you through blogger and through g+ xo
oops I think I just follow through blogger . Are you on Google plus?
Hi Tracie,
I too did not think google would leave us high and dry. I added linky to my sidebar and now I've found that some people are only following that way. I think it might be nice to get rid of it also. I am already following GFC. Thanks for the heads up!
Hugs,
Jann
Hi Tracie,

I had added it to my blog just in case. I do want to follow other blogs that are not on blogger also.

Thanks for letting us know. :-)

Hey, I checked my blog yesterday, thinking there'd be a great reduction - but no change. I realized GFC was not going away - I never read that in their messages - they were just discontinuing their services to other blog platforms. I can see others trying to figure out how to stay connected - I am with you - I was looking at my sidebar - clutter! Trying to find out how to put all the social media icons into one cute gadget - had to go shopping today, to get out. Guess what! I went to Lowes today and their garden center was FULL of gorgeous colors! I could live outdoors the rest of the year I think!
Hugs,
Kathy

The Linky follow option is for your followers who don't blog through Blogspot. Some are Dot.coms and some blog via Wordpress...if they sign onto the Linky they'll still be following your blog.

I'm just disgusted with Google right now, they took my beloved Picnik away and now I feel as if they're trying to forcefeed their social network on us...I have zero interest in any social network aside from my blog!

Saw your comment on Debbie's blog and wanted to chime in on a few things re: GFC. Blogger never said that GFC was going to be eliminated for everyone! It was only going to be made unavailable to NON-Blogger platforms. The company always intended to keep GFC enabled for the Blogger platform. While the system is still enabled at this time for the non-Blogger platform, it's still scheduled to be eliminated for them. Too many people didn't fully understand what Blogger was doing, either through mis-communication or mis-understanding. Then they mistakenly spread the word that it was going away for everyone!

While it isn't a necessity to have the new Linky Followers installed on our blogs, I think that it serves as another opportunity for non-Blogger readers to follow Blogger platform blogs, since they won't be able to use GFC. It certainly can't hurt to have multiple ways for people to sign on to follow us- and that would include RSS feeds and e-mail subscriptions. I offer all of these on my own blog. I don't have any vested interests in Linky Followers, but I do think it's nice for all blogging platforms to have an alternative. :-)

There are so many rumors about Google that it is hard to know from day to day what is true. I signed up for the linky follower too and have not had a response. Don't know why.

Google never changed there minds it was a rumor from the get go they have made it clear in the 2011 posting that they are only giving up non googel users such as typepad and such.

This is a great message Tracie, thank you for helping the storm come to a calm.

although i know that blogger blogs get to keep GFC, what would happen to followers who don't have blogger blogs? would they get deleted from the GFC followers list?
