Just Roses…

I’m in love with roses! The more the better, don’t you think?  I love it when they are happy and healthy in the garden.  We haven’t been that lucky until the past couple weeks with our roses here in Seattle. We were blessed with so much rain this past spring that it gave almost every rose in my garden Mildew, Blackspot, Botrytis, and anything else that was possible for a rose to “catch”.   

I’ve awaited the days of beautiful blooms and healthy foliage, and that time has finally come.  I’ve been through the garden many days just cutting the foliage off of every single rose shrub that I have in the garden until it’s completely naked! Once I’ve done that, I fertilize and cover with compost and make excuses for my unhealthy roses when visitors ask…what happened? once the healthy foliage appeared and new blooms began to show…I anxiously awaited the explosion of beautiful blooms throughout the garden.

I have purchased most of my roses from online stores that deal mainly in Antique Roses.  I am in love with the fragrance on the old roses. My personal favorites are the bourbons. not sure why, but they just are.

After I found enough pink roses for the gardens I began to introduce lighter pinks and whites into the garden…

This lavender one is my latest addition. I love the way it looks on the side of my house.  I look forward to a more established shrub next year.

This year I have introduced a lot more yellow into the garden over this past year…

I love the yellow’s combined with the fuchsia colored roses…

I’m not a huge fan of orange hues in my garden, but these are so pretty in the garden…

Even if it’s color leans more toward the orange color, “Colette Climbing Rose” is one of my favorites in my garden!

A few red’s, but not many. These look very much the same, but they are not.

and a few multi-colored roses are thrown into the mix…

I hope you enjoyed browsing through my roses here at Fishtail Cottage, I bet you’d be surprised to know that I still haven’t seen blooms on a few of them? I’ve never counted how many roses I have, I should though, shouldn’t I?  I do know most of their names except a few that have decided to die back to the original graft, so if you’d like help identifying one of them ~ just shoot me an email w/the photo.  (ps ~ hope to see you at this weeks garden party over here at Fishtail Cottage)!
