2012

A year in review!

What a year it has been…Big and subtle changes here at Fishtail Cottage.  I have really enjoyed reviewing what has gone on here in my home, both outdoors and indoors!  It’s difficult not to share all of my favorite posts of 2012. So I’ll share the ones that impacted Fishtail Cottage the most! You can click on the photo’s to be taken to the posts!

026Because its my favorite place to be, let’s begin in the Garden…As most of you know, my garden began as a blank slate in 2006 ~ I have planted, moved, tended to each and everything myself in Fishtail Cottage’s Landscape.  I am in awe each spring/summer/fall/winter since I started this journey in the garden, As it’s evolved into even more beauty every year! I love the Garden Party that Fishtail Cottage hosts May – October…it’s my favorite blog party ever!

Flowers, never enough flowers!

Moving to the patio…this past summer, we invested in new patio furniture.  We spend the majority of our summer outdoors (rain or shine)! Lucky to have our patio area covered, we enjoy coffee in the morning watching the chickens scratch in the gardens.  088Barbeques with friends anytime of the day and the kids choice of dessert is roasting marshmallows in the fireplace in the evenings!

Walking indoors…It’s funny that when we began 2012 I was worried I’d run out of ideas to blog about.  012However, the year brought me more inspiration for change than I’d ever had imagined would happen here at Fishtail Cottage.  My most fun project was making over my sons room into a Guest Suite! Hunting for the perfect pieces was my favorite, combined with changing up items I already had to adorn the room and a few “do it yourself” projects really made this room my favorite!   The most impactful change in our home was the remodel of our Great Room. IMG_0177 Removing the fireplace was a major decision to do, but the room turned out to be more charming than we’d hoped for. Opening up the kitchen wall into the Great Room has really opened the room up as well…everything seems to ‘flow’ the way it should have been in the beginning.  016We’ve been able to enjoy this room for the holidays and are loving it more and more each day.  Altering the bonus room from a play room to more of a a teen hang out, was one of the best changes in 2012 ~ splitting the room into two rooms so that it is more functional for it’s intended uses has turned out to be amazing.  The kids love hanging with their friends and somehow have managed to keep the room clean! 001One of the greatest changes to our home is creating a sanctuary in my Master Bedroom by just shopping from my own home, moving pieces around and creating an environment that I cannot get enough of!  I really enjoy my sleeping space ~ its so such a comforting place to escape to!

002Trying new things… is something that will probably always be difficult for me.  Permanently changing something with paint feels so scary.  Creating something from scratch is always fun, but I worry “do I just think it’s cute because of all the work I put into it?” I’ve seen the most inspiring ideas out there, but I am never really confident in trying my hand at it…however,I’ve given it a try anyway, and found the results so rewarding!

Lovely garden, love your stone pathway!

Happy New Year!
You really have done so much, Tracie, inside and out and I enjoyed all of your posts! The upstairs room for the kids is just fabulous (I still want that cabinet you found!). And I always love your adventures in your garden. What do you have growing on your arbor? I have a completely bare one that I am determined to grow something on this year!

Happy New Year, sweet friend!

XO,
Jane PS...I did a 2012 post, too!

You've had a really busy year! I can imagine how hard it would be, deciding whether or not to keep a fireplace... Happy to hear you're delighted with the result. Everything looks just yummy.
