Hinges

When we moved into our home back in 2006, I started a punch list of my own tasks that I one day would love to eventually change here at Fishtail Cottage.  Even though our home was custom built, there are still strange items that our builder snuck in. One of those items on my list are the door hinges. For some reason nickel door hinges were used throughout the entire house (90 total) even though the door knobs I picked out were bronze and glass.  Seeing these hinges over the past eight years, has driven me CRAZY

The cost of replacing all 90 hinges has made me turn my cheek to the idea!  It’s nice to invest in your home now and then with a new upgrade. I ordered Stanley replacement door hinges, only fifteen to try out in our master bedroom and bathroom…& WOW what a difference it made aesthetically!

Who would have that something so simple would be so amazing!

Now I just need to order seventy-five more hinges to complete the rest of the house! Yes, I’m saving!!! Go to natman.com to find the hinges or similar National Hardware products at a local retailer! Would love to hear what you have had on your own “to do list”? Do you have any upcoming projects that you are working on? Can’t wait to read what you share? xoxo, tracie

It is amazing how something so simple makes such a difference. Wow you have a lot of of doors? Do a room at a time to make it a more manageable project!

Why would the builder not be responsible for making this right?

It does make a difference, why can't these builders do the job right,it always made me wonder,ok what else is wrong i can't see. Looks great and have a great day.
I so want to change out all my 1980's brass door knobs and hinges...someday. I love yours!
Isn't it funny how things like that do bug us? Our home was a custom built home as well. Not by us, but by the original owners. They have mixed nickel and bronze also. Seemed a little crazy to me. In the baths the faucet is bronze but the cabinet doors are nickel. What has bugged me the most about our home are the tan baseboards. Finally decided to just let them be until we paint the walls as well.

I too have nickel hinges, and at least the door knobs are the same, in my case they match but would love more of a vintage look of old to the hardware as you have done here .
You always have some great project going on and is it not so fun to see these little changes add big design style to its new look. See you soon dear sweet friend.
Keep on one door at a time and soon the dreaded nickel will be resolved.
