Clearance Plants….

001003
You’ve seen ‘em – the poor plants that have already had their “pretty” days?  The bulbs that have already bloomed and begun to wilt?  If you are ever going to get such a deal on next years garden – now is the time!

I love buying and planting bulbs in the fall, but if you are anything like me, you cringe wondering if you just dug into the ground where another bulb already existed?  So, in some gardens – this is the way to go. To buy fully bloomed potted bulbs to plant amongst your current sprouting bulbs.  There is not guess work!

These are the plants you should be looking for this time of year.  I picked up the 6 pots of flowered daffodils above for just $2.75 each. Each pot has about 5 to 6 flowering bulbs to offer. Which means if I plant these 35 bulbs throughout the garden – I will have a wonderful spread of daffodils to view (because their clumps only grow in size!)

Join me for Cottage Flora Thursday’s (should be up in a bit).  To see where else I am linking to this week – please check my “Cottage Links” label…xoxo, tracie

I got beautiful tulips for 99 cents! Too bad they are done blooming now. I will show photos soon. Ciao Rita
We rarely have clearance of perennials here I guess because we have such a mild climate but the bulbs would be a great buy. You can plant right from the pot or wait for them to die back. Lucky duck finding all those.

Love clearance plants! You can tuck them in, then forget until they're a sweet surprise the next year... ;)
Thanks for reminding me.. I have a friend who buys like that all the time and she has a lovely garden.. I never think to do it.. you would think I like to waste money..

Hi there Tracie! Thanks for the tip. I almost always overlook the clearance plants but you are so right about bulbs, they rebloom year after year. I'm glad to join you again this week.

This is a great tip, Tracie! I always feel like those leftover plants are saying, "Adopt me!!". I have some daffodils and tulips just sprouting from the ground. I am so excited and praying we don't get another frost.

XO,
Janie

Tracie, I too buy clearance plants. I call them rescue plants because usually those bigbox places over water and try to kill them. They do fine in my flower garden once rescued except roses...I kill them as we have already lamented over haha. Thanks bunches for hosting. hugs♥olive

Tracie- You and me, girlfriend! I love those bargains...and the thing is you already know they produce good flowers-so there is no wondering about if they will actually bloom! Don't you love those Spring bargains? xxoo Diana
Great idea Tracie. Still a little life left in the clearance plants and they can be moved around in their pots where you want a bit of colour.
I've planted them right in the garden at this stage and other times kept the bulbs until fall.

It's always fun to find great deals especially ones that will keep getting prettier every year.
Thanks for hosting.

I love hitting the clearance racks to see what I might be able to save. I picked up a few yellow pansies for 32 cents. I know they won't last forever but they brighten up a spot for now. Less then a bouquet of flowers and will last longer!

A good tip, something we have done ourselves.

This is a fabulous idea. I have bought clearance before but never bulb plants so now I have another item on my "to do" list. :)

I always plant my gift bulbs in the ground after they bloom - some come up and some don't' but they are free or very cheap!
