I know, I know, I know…I cringed for weeks at the thought of painting this desk that I shared with you awhile back. I received several emails begging me not to paint it, which made the leap even more difficult. However – my intention when purchasing this darling piece of history was to make it my very own and use it in the guest suite as a desk. So over the weekend, I closed my eyes and “jumped”! If you missed the original post, click HERE to read it.
Wanting to try Annie Sloan Chalk Paint for quite some time, I picked up both Duck Egg Blue and Old White colors from Haley’s Cottage a few weeks ago and have been trying not to think about painting this piece. But with the weather so beautiful here in Washington State this past weekend ~ I figured I might as well play a little.
With ‘leg room’ in mind, I removed one of the sides of the table and put it into storage. Using the images I have been saving on a Pinterest Board of what I wanted I carefully started painting the bottom portion of the table just with the Old White color.
Then I decided to get a little more daring and put a coat of Duck Egg Blue on…It didn’t take me very long to decide the Duck Egg Blue wasn’t what my vision entailed. So I then began repainting over the top with the Old White again.
Once the new coat of Old White was reapplied – there is a few places where the blue was still showing through – but I left it alone to give the table a little more character.
While allowing the paint to dry, I peeked again at my “inspiration board” of photo’s that I had pinned and analyzed the differences. Realizing I needed to try to distress the top of the desk I applied the chalk paint to the top of the table and then wiped it down with an old wet rag after allowing the paint to dry for a bit.
So the end result is fairly close to what I was hoping for…Take a peek at the photo’s to see what you think ~

Very, very pretty!
Oh- It looks great. I have a hard time painting some old pieces, too. The purist in me keeps poking me in the back and saying NO. It looks like it will be a versatile piece. xo Diana

I like it. It is very cheerful and not so serious anymore. Paint is a wonderful thing. I have an old kitchen table that I need to do this with.

I love that you chose to paint...some how it brings it back to life!
Your table turned out perfectly gorgeous! I love seeing all of your flowers in the background, too.

Love it!
This looks great! I know it's hard sometimes to paint wood, but I think that the painting and distressing gives it so much character! Love it! Hugs, Leena
Well it really looks great! Very pretty!
I'm glad you decided to paint it. To me, unless it's a family heirloom that has a history important to ME OR it's an extremely valuable piece that painting would destroy . . . I say make it your OWN and you DID! Lovely!
This is wonderful. LOVE it!!!
Oh I love it!
Thanks for inspiring me to paint mine!!
I think it looks great! I've been wanting to do that to my dining room table, which I've had for over 20 years. I've heard about the Annie Sloan chalk paint and am excited to see how it will look on my table. It is sometimes difficult to take a risk and try something new, but well worth it!
Your table turned out gorgeous, as Rachel said, I LOVE LOVE LOVE it too :)

It is hard to paint beautiful wood, but we have to go with what we really want. I used to have a table like that and could kick myself for selling it. Enjoy!
I love how your table turned out, leaving the wood on the top with a bit of distressed look. Definitely a good move to paint it!

I like it! You have to make it your own and you did a beautiful job. Thanks for linking up to Share the Love Wednesday!

I love it! Also love your blog. Also love AS chalk paint. Great makeover!
SO GREAT~I am going to share this on my FB page!
You did an amazing job with the painting! It looks so MUCH nicer. I think you made the right choice in this case.
I have an old farm table similar to this, but it has an enamel top on it with blue sponge painting along the edges of the enamel top. The wood is currently painted John Deer green and yellow (that's how I bought it).
Saw this on facebook. Looks good great job. I am doing some projects right now with Annie Sloan.

I love this little table. I can so see this in a farm kitchen, a modern one of course! I picked up a round drop table today at a sale.

It's so pretty and I so want one just like it. I so love it, and love the updated look. Thanks for sharing your creative inspiration at Sunday's Best Par.tay!
I struggle with painting good wood, if there is no visible damage to a piece it is difficult to paint...but I have never regretted painting one piece...I like how you wiped back the top to reveal the wood, and some of the paint stayed in the grain...that is nice.
Have you decided what piece you will use the Duck Egg on?

Wow, Tami! That turned out fabulous, girl! Isn't it great that even when you think you don't like what you've done, a little more swishing of ASCP and a magical moment later....it's just perfect! But you know me....if it's wood, it's gonna get painted! lol! And I LUV LUV LUV that Duck Egg Blue!!! ♥
