Transformation using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint….

I know, I know, I know…I cringed for weeks at the thought of painting this desk that I shared with you awhile back.  I received several emails begging me not to paint it, which made the leap even more difficult.  However – my intention when purchasing this darling piece of history was to make it my very own and use it in the guest suite as a desk.  So over the weekend, I closed my eyes and “jumped”!  If you missed the original post, click HERE to read it.

Wanting to try Annie Sloan Chalk Paint for quite some time, I picked up both Duck Egg Blue and Old White colors from Haley’s Cottage a few weeks ago and have been trying not to think about painting this piece.  But with the weather so beautiful here in Washington State this past weekend ~ I figured I might as well play a little.

With ‘leg room’ in mind, I removed one of the sides of the table and put it into storage.  Using the images I have been saving on a Pinterest Board of what I wanted I carefully started painting the bottom portion of the table just with the Old White color.

Then I decided to get a little more daring and put a coat of Duck Egg Blue on…It didn’t take me very long to decide the Duck Egg Blue wasn’t what my vision entailed. So I then began repainting over the top with the Old White again.

 

Once the new coat of Old White was reapplied – there is a few places where the blue was still showing through – but I left it alone to give the table a little more character. 

While allowing the paint to dry, I peeked again at my “inspiration board” of photo’s that I had pinned and analyzed the differences.  Realizing I needed to try to distress the top of the desk I applied the chalk paint to the top of the table and then wiped it down with an old wet rag after allowing the paint to dry for a bit.

So the end result is fairly close to what I was hoping for…Take a peek at the photo’s to see what you think ~
