Bonus Room Makeover…

As I shared with you in an earlier post, we are remodeling our Great Room here at Fishtail Cottage.  But of course when I started planning that project, my mind was swirling with ideas about making a few changes in another room of our home.  The kids Bonus/Play room.  When we first moved in ~ this is what it looked like.  Attached to the playroom is a theater that we love having ~ because with seven kids, going to the movie theater gets a little spendy.

I have yet to part with the kids kitchen, table and chairs, doll house and the white storage bins because maybe someday ‘grandkids will play with them’.  The chandy is hanging in the den now.

Over time these two rooms evolved into what we “needed”.  My husband finally purchased his theater chairs, we put Pottery Barn twin bed sleepers in the play room part, along with a Pottery Barn storage unit for all the toys! (if you are local, I have the sleeper sofa’s and storage unit for sale).

Now that the kids have hit young adult, teen and pre teen stages…we decided to cut the two rooms off from one another by adding a wall and french doors (with a lock on it) to keep the littler visitors from playing in the theater room, only so many times you can catch them playing leap from or playing dance in the theater space.  Not to mention we can now watch a movie in the theater, yet still have the bonus room useful to others.

Once this space was painted and the doors were installed (still waiting for the hardware), I couldn’t wait to move a few pieces I’ve been collecting to place in this room.  The darling cottage cabinet I shared a few posts back. And a great buffet from Haleys Cottage in Kirkland to hold the kids consoles and games.

This room is also being used for storage to our great room with a few things, but functional for us to use while we wait for the great room to be completed.  I brought up the floral couches thinking I could use them in here and maybe even slip cover them.

But decided they didn’t give us the seating space we needed and decided to purchase these ikea slipcovered couches off of craigslist.  So yes, my floral couches are now for sale.   I know I will continue to play with this room ~ and have a few things I am definitely looking for, and will continue to update you.  But here are a few photo’s as of today.

The toss pillows and white side table, I picked up at Ruffles and Rust just last night. I think they truly are so just cute with the painted cabinet close by.

Well, you've taken a very masculine space and made it your own - gorgeous. Love the pillows. In fact, I've pinned them so I can try and make my own. Well done, Tracie.

Very nice, Tracie! The slipcovers are perfect and lighten up the whole area. I like how you partitioned things off, great for a little privacy. And a home theater! What a great idea! I am still loving that cabinet!!
