Come on in…

IMG_0682Many of you have been following our family room remodel here at Fishtail Cottage.   The couches finally arrived this past Monday, as did the longer Pottery Barn Panels.  For the past couple days, I've been playing with placement of the furniture and the accessories in the room. I’m excited to finally share with you the photo’s I took this morning.

As you can see, not having the shutters on the upper windows has certainly brightened up the room.

The couches were purchased through Haley’s Cottage and Cindy helped with deciding the perfect measurements in the room.  The color is a nice linen color that will go with just about any accessory I decide to bring into the room.  Right now, I’m loving accenting the blue that is similar to what is on the patio ~ just outside those French doors.

IMG_0694We decided to have the longer sofa in the center of the room with the smaller sofa under the window.  Knowing that the cream ottoman will act as a foot rest and an extra seating space ~ I have decided it’s a little scary for me to have in the room at such a light color.  So I decided to place an order with Ticking & Toile to customize a washable cover for it.  Looking forward to it arriving soon!

Also decided was to not put the chunky wool rug down…owning three shih tzu’s and kids always coming and going, it might be best to skip having a rug in this room all together!  I’m thinking I like it without the rug anyway!

Standing in the kitchen, shows how open the rooms are now without the unnecessary column hovering in the center of the countertop.  I want to replace the tile with something else (eventually), but didn’t want to make a quick decision of what I want.  So we found a few tiles that sort of matched the old ones and I’m not going to worry about it for a couple years.

When moving around the accessories, I tried to simplify the placement of what I have.  I didn’t bring out all of my tea cups that were originally displayed (sad face).  Only the three footed tea cup collection remain.  I changed out the picture frames to lighter colors and updated more recent photo’s. Also, brought over some of my white pitchers and and tureens from the kitchen hutch which has brightened up the cabinet space.

We are loving how much lower the television sits.  No more cranking our necks to look up to to see it!  The placement of the furniture will allow us to have cozy chats and movie nights – from all angles.  The two Pottery Barn leather chairs will sit on each side of the faux mantle.  (although, for now the Christmas tree sits in place of one of the chairs).

I am so pleased to share how cozy this room turned out. thinking that the time the family spends in this room will be much more than years past.  I’m sure I will be sharing so much more in this room with you in the future!  So much charm and character it has now.  Click here to see the before…

Love those sofas. Just changing up pillows through the seasons will be so easy for a new look, every now and then. I like my livingroom without rugs too. Enjoy your Christmas. xoxo,Susie

Hi Tracie

You've done a wonderful job here. It looks like it's been there forever. Love the linen sofas - so simple to bring in a neutral that you can work with. Love it all!

And just in time for the holidays

Tracie,
I really like how it all has come together. Love the couches and ottoman. Hubby and I went looking at new family room furniture last weekend. The two I liked were neutral colored. Wasn't sure about going light. Even though the grandies are really very good. Our furniture is only three years old. I special ordered it after seeing it in a home show. I love it, but didn't realize that it really is too small for my tall hubby. Thanks for sharing with Share Your Cup.
Hugs,
Jann
