Fall is in the air…9/8/14
The gardens here at Fishtail Cottage are sure feeling the crisp night air and the flowers are not appearing the way they were just a month ago. We are seeing a the beginning changes in the leaf colors of our trees and shrubs here in the Pacific Northwest. I’m excited to see the beauty of what this years garden will offer as these next couple months now that it’s a year older. In a few more weeks, this photo I’m sharing with you will be full of reds and yellows and several shades of green!
To help the feeling of fall along, I dressed up a few patio planters with new plants to enjoy. I don’t want to do too much this early…but it is certainly nice to bring in a little bit of “cozy” for when I’m sitting and enjoying my morning coffee! This is my new coffee mug I picked up from Chaps in Spokane when recently visited…
I’ll bet you already spotted that pretty fall planter in the back ground of the photo?
I’m sure your curious to know what I planted? I’m happy to share! First is the largest focal plant that I planted, not in the center, but on the edge of the planter…I’ll sometimes do this to share the center of the planter with another plant that I place along side. This pretty plant is called a Variegated Purple Fountain Grass called Fireworks. Its an annual here in my area but it sure is pretty!
As I said, the fountain grass is sharing the center of the planter with another beautiful plant that will bloom well into winter. This plant is a gorgeous fall Garden Mum called Gigi Coral. I’ve tried to winter these over as they are considered a perennial here, but I've personally never had any luck. So I will enjoy it while it lasts.
To keep the ‘cottage style’ in my planters I love having a trailing plant that spills out. The one I chose is called Silver Falls Dichondra. It loves full sunshine and may or may not make it through our winter.
This gorgeous heuchra that I divided when visiting my dads place. I am not sure what the name of it is, but I love the colors. If you want to revisit the post on how to get starts of heuchra click here (it’s so easy).
And lastly is this Calocephalus brownii “Twiggy silver bush” ~ I thought it’s texture was so unique and ghostly looking. Perfect for fall, don’t you think?
A few other pretty fall planters that I left alone all winter/summer have filled in nicely this year. Its so nice when you have planters that can be left to enjoy all year long with perennials!
The front porch has a hint of fall color too! As you can see the gardens around the porch are doing what comes naturally so a couple additions were easy to add!
I’m excited to see how all of your gardens are doing this week too! So please come back and share your garden post later this evening! Also, don’t forget to enter the Giveaway going on over here at Fishtail Cottage – if you missed it, click here! xoxo, tracie

Also...please accept my apologies for not being a part of your weekly party this year. What a wonky time summer was. And I need to make a list of all the parties going on. Always late! Ha!

so fun to see how the gardens change with each season.
