Rustic Outdoor Table…

A few weeks ago, I shared with you that we replaced our furniture with new and I must say much more comfortable furniture on our patio.  If you missed that post and want to go back to see, click here.

I am happy to also share with you that our other furniture was sold within a week a posting it on Craigslist! I do not like holding onto things if they do not have their “place” here at Fishtail Cottage.  Once all ten pieces were moved out to their new homes, I was able to seriously start looking for a new outdoor eating set.  My inspiration came from Courtney’s out door area over at French Country Cottage.  She has the most amazing style and I’m a crazy stalker to see what she does next out there on her patio dining area.  She is always full of inspiration.
While browsing “farmhouse tables” on Craigslist, I came across an advertisement for outdoor tables made out of salvaged wood.    My husband and I were in awe of the photo’s of the 14 foot tables that the advertisement was offering, but after measuring our space we had to work with, we quickly realized those fabulous tables would not fit.  I messaged anyways, stating that I was very interested in having him custom make us a table and benches with new cedar…we began corresponding back and forth and before I knew it ~ he offered to dismantle the 14 foot table that was available and customize it to 9 feet and create benches for me with the left over wood.  We finally sealed the deal last Friday and yesterday he sent a note that the table was ready to be delivered.  We were excited for the pieces to arrive to see if they truly were what we had imagined them to be ~ honestly, it exceeded any expectation that we had.
091 After unloading and placing the furniture it its new place on the flagstone patio ~ it was explained that the parents of this college student were replacing their old decking and he thought he would give his try at make something out of the pieces they were planning to throw away!  The craftsmanship and details of this table and benches are pretty amazing for “giving it a try”…My husband is excited to put the 4 inch deep and 8 foot long trough in the center to use by filling it with ice to keep beers and soda’s cold.  090Another option is filling the trough with flowers and plants for a formal event. We also purchased a separate slat of the same wood to replace the trough should we decide to do so.

The patina on the wood is a perfect combination to sit between our patio fireplace and the area walking up to the chicken coop.

For another entertaining option, I would love to have Shellagh over at Ticking and Toile to work her magic by creating a table cloth and bench covers…?

I’m sure I will be sharing a lot more photo’s of this space in the years to come ~ I am in love with this patio space now and look forward to having many guests sit and enjoy meals with us! To see where else I am linking to this week – please check my “Cottage Links” label…xoxo, tracie

The trough is a fabulous idea, I like that it 'lowers' flowers in the middle so people can see over them and not have to look through them on a table. I have seen pics of other trough tables in Italy and they look amazing for outdoor living.
It's just beautiful -- what a nice thing to do with that recycled deck, and I love the trough idea!

I have seen this type of table before but never in anyone's home, love reading this review! I can't wait to see the many different ways you decorate it.....I am picturing a ruffled cloth with a rectangle cut out of the center to accommodate the trough...so exciting!
Love it...so rustic and outdoorsy looking. Not bad for giving it a try! :) Awesome find!

Awesome! Just last night as we sat on our deck, my husband said it was time to replace it but use the wood for something else. This may just be the answer.

Can't wait to see it dressed up!!
What a great table! Looks wonderful and the trough is fun! Looking forward to seeing all the ways you use it!

What a lovely table and bench set! It reminds me of the old picnic tables, but more attractive and better made! I'm sure you and your family will enjoy dining, playing games and just sitting around this set! Happy Labor Day! Hugs, Leena
This is just beautiful, Tracie!! That it is reclaimed wood makes it even more amazing. What a great job this guy did...I think he found his calling! I like the idea of Shellagh making a table cloth (or runner), her work is gorgeous! Have fun! :)

Wow, I think you got lucky to find this on Craigslist. Loving the trough in the middle, so many different ways you could use it. The aged wood is so rustic and pretty. It helps to make a great area to sit and enjoy at. Thanks for sharing your creative inspiration with Sunday’s Best – you helped make the party a success!

Great table and benches, very rustic. They would look perfect with some white and ruffles.
Love it Tracie! My youngest daughter and hubby had a rustic table made for their outdoor space and I love it. Would like to go that direction before too long. The trough is so fun. I too love Courtney's style and copied her numbered chairs. I always get compliments on them. Thanks for linking with Share Your Cup.
Hugs,
